My first gaming build

i was working with about a $600 budget, this is what i have so far. My buddy is selling me his 280x for $175 so i changed it in pcpartpicker. Any suggestions? http://pcpartpicker.com/user/ruddy2107/saved/DfzhP6

Looks good to me. Happy to see that you have a suitable motherboard for the 8320.

I feel the need to point out that the heatsink on the ASUS R9 280x has proven problematic. It's hit or miss. If your friend has used it and it works, it should be fine.

Bum another $20 bucks and grab a cheap 120GB SSD for your OS, makes a world of difference!

yea he only had it for about a month and decided to upgrade. i've been thinking about changing it to the 8350 but not sure if its worth it?

what would you suggest? is a 64gb enough?

I mean it would work but you would have to be diligent about keeping your OS clean. I personally wouldn't use less than a 120GB and just look around you can get all kinds of 120GB SSD's now around 50-80 bucks. Example would be the Kingston V300 on newegg.

EDIT: I don't know what your HDD situation is but make sure you have a mech for storage and games too.

You can overclock the 8320 to the speeds of an 8350. They are the same chip, but one is "binned" lower, less efficient. There's no guarantee that it will overclock, however. Also, you would need a half-decent CPU cooler. The CM Hyper 212 for ~$30 will be fine. You cannot overclock with the stock heatsink.

I would advise getting the 8350, if it doesn't cost too much in addition. But you might want to satisfy other things, like the SSD that was advised below. You can get some cheap 120GBs these days. Good for the OS and a couple of choice games with long loading times.

i would like too but im heavily considering the ssd now so i might just wait a bit get the cpu cooler and OC, unless the price drops in about 1-2 weeks which is when i'll begin purchasing everything.

i"ll probably just go with the 120gb, especially if i can get one for $50. I would be able to partition the drive for the OS correct? and i have a 2tb external that im going to make internal and a 320gb

Yea you should be fine! I have a 240GB SSD that I run Debian and Win8 on fine.

Yes, I would advise getting the SSD first, if you're satisfied with the 8320.

yea im fine with it, i think i would rather spend those extra couple of bucks on a video card. someone just told me im going to need 700w at least for this build? i dont see how.

i just added this kingston http://pcpartpicker.com/p/vHf6NG

sexy

even with a good video card i wont need 700w correct? lol, someone just told me thats what i need atleast

That's plenty and it gives you some breathing room too, I'd stick with that.

I would not partition the 120GB SSD ... you will need that much room for OS and all installed programs & games.

You have to keep in mind how large the new games are becoming ... you will need the entire 120GB SSD as your primary drive.

well i was gonna put all the games on my 2tb mechanical? besides the os is there anything else i should put on the ssd?

I agree with the 120GB SSD comment, but please don't get Kingston's V300 line of SSDs.  They have changed the flash to asynchronous flash, resulting in inconsistent and poor performance.

This would be a better performer:

I use to typically keep one mmo on my 120 intel SSD and never ran out of space just because of those times ya know haha but I wouldn't do anything other than OS honestly.
