My First Build (Tight Budget)

Hey guys. I'm new here and hoping to build my first PC soon. The build I have so far : is http://pcpartpicker.com/p/29Up3 . This is on a tight budget but [I think] I did a good job.

I don't want to spend much now, but I'm trying to make something that has room to be upgraded.

Will this be good for future upgrades? Changes you would make while keeping the price similar?

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks!~

EDIT : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2c0ag is my new build. Comment on that instead.

not bad. only thing i would say would be to maybe bump up that GPU  a bit? maybe something like this?

Consider this case and motherboard:

Case: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/fractal-design-case-fdcacore1000usb3bl

Motherboard: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/msi-motherboard-fm2a75mae35

I'm in no way saying you SHOULD buy either of these.  I'm just saying you should consider them, and if they meet your needs then it could be a better value.

Thanks guys, I'll look into those parts. However, before reading these posts I found : http://pcpartpicker.com/part/sapphire-video-card-1003572gl . Would that GPU be good to choose over my original http://pcpartpicker.com/part/asus-video-card-hd7770dc1gd5v2 ?

Here is a general idea of how those cards will perform:

You can decide if the extra $18 is worth it.

Edit: Wait wait wait.  I read that wrong.  The better card is cheaper.  Unless you don't like rebates.  In which case it's such a small difference in price it doesn't statistically matter.

edit edit: So... get the 7770.

GET THE CHEAPER ONE.  The 7770 will outperform the 7750 by a LOT.

Thanks! Will get the 7770. Figuring out if I need to change the motherboard now.

Unless there's features on this board that aren't on the one you currently have picked out, then this board is cheaper, and good:

Is this something that can be upgraded in the future?

Looking for something that can be expanded upon.

Except for not being able to add more RAM sticks, yeah I'd say you can upgrade it.

So...my original build turned into this : http://pcpartpicker.com/p/2c0ag

You've got a great budget PC build there in my eyes.  Asus makes the best motherboards, and that graphics card will be more than enough to play most games on high or even ultra.  You've done very well for yourself!

If you can afford a little more, I'd throw in a nice SSD like the Samsung 840 Evo either 120 or 250 gb.  That'll greatly speed up boot time and also loading times on games that you put on there.

Thanks! I wish I could spend a bit more, but this will have to do. I keep thinking I need more but this will probably be overkill for my purposes. Trying to give myself room if I ever decide to do more intensive PC gaming.

I've been considering (and wanting to add) an SSD. It'll definitely push my budget though, so it's probably something I'll get a little bit after I build the PC.

Yeah, then you're fine for now.  Assuming your primary goal is gaming, you've got more than enough here to do that.  In the future for upgrades, I'd probably add in an SSD, then switch the mobo and CPU to something intel, like one of the new Haswell processors, and then either add in another GPU for crossfire or upgrade it entirely.

That's the plan! I'm deciding whether I should go a bit cheaper on the motherboard because I'll probably end up replacing it in the near future.

Eh, I wouldn't.  You're not going to save that much getting a cheaper motherboard that has the same quality as this one.  I'd always stick with Asus boards personally too.  You probably won't end up changing it for another 8-10 months at the very least I'd guess, and for that time period this is a great board.  I'd stick with it.

Alrighty then..

Probably no more changes to this build. I'll try to get this done somewhat soon and come back with an update.

Thanks everyone, you've been so helpful to this newbie. :)

Any additional opinions are still welcome
