My favorite sub $650 build for gaming

Lets start this off by saying that I do not currently have this physical build (though I have built it before), this build is merely theoretical and at the time of posting this, the build is under $600.

Because I am a nerd, I spend my time theorizing builds aimed at specific price brackets, haha.

You can of course upgrade the CPU and maybe add an aftermarket cooler and you'd probably still stay in the price bracket.

I'd like some feedback on this :)

It's actually pretty nice. Good work!

thank you!

More budget-oriented guys should take a look at this.

Nice build realy.

i did a little chance on the build.i hope you dont mind that. haha

switched out the mobo for a 20 dollar cheaper one Asus M5A97 R2.0, and chanced the gpu to 7870XT.

I know the Gigabyte has a better power phase design, and would probably OC a littlebit easier, But im Sure On the asus with 4+2 power phase you will also be able to do a little OC ofc no crazy stuff, but you get a much nicer gpu, and i think thats more worth for gaming.

Haha thanks, I've actually been looking at the XT and I saw it had the same architecture as the 7950 and the 7970 so i've been meaning to make an XT build. If I wasn't to overclock hard i'd definitely go with the m5A97. Thanks, you've opened up my horizons a little bit :)

Nice! Glad to see I'm not the only one who spend his time theorizing builds aimed at specific price brackets. :P Very nice build there!

Youre Welcome:;

I allways like to help people, wenn it comes to computers.

And i realy like, that you people on this community, appreciate my oppinions.

On other community´s most people dont take my advices seriously, maybe cause im a girl i dont know. but, This community is awesome.

yes i selected that 7870XT cause its a tahiti LE same chip as the 7950/7970. its theorethicly a downsized 7950, but it still has 1536 stream processors instead of 1280 on a normal 7870, that makes a 7870XT just perform better..

Grtz Angel ☺

HEY i have a question what if im using an amd fx 6300 and overclock it? plus 7870 and the case has 8 fans what psu do I need?

Uh maybe get a 212 evo for the fan. For major overclocking i'd go with the gigabyte motherboard but if you're only doing minor overclocking i'd go with the asus motherboard.

I'm not sure about what psu, but I guess i'd use a seasonic/xfx/corsair/nzxt psu at maybe 600w or 650w. I'd use a voltage calculator on the interwebs and go from there.

I would personally use this one:

Seasonic M12II 620 Bronze 620W Modular Power Supply

Build looks pretty good. Some concerns, but not show stoppers:

* The RAM selected needs to run at 1.65v to attain 1866 mHz speeds, per manufacturers specs. I don't like to have my RAM run above DDR3 specs (1.5 volts), but that doesn't mean that it won't work, just a concern.

* The case is good, but only supports 1 x front USB 3.0 ports. For the same $ the Corsair 300R (better case, IMHO) supports 2 x front USB 3.0 ports. Not a show stopper, just something to conisder.

* PSU is good, but not great. It generally is a good PSU, but has been getting some iffy reviews from individuals (yeah I know not reputable), but something to conisder.

With that out of the way, here is my sub $650 build, with similiar parts, except for the Mobo, RAM, GPU, Case, & PSU:

cool beans buddy

I don't plan on overclocking the ram I don't think, so i think i'll be okay.

I really didnt think when choosing the case haha, I chose it because its known for quality and looks nice :) But yes the 300r does look like a good alternative.

And the psu, well, I guess it's reliable enough but as alot of people say, you shouldn't skimp on the psu so yeah i'd change it. I chose it because it was the cheapest out of all the other alternatives, haha.

Thanks a heap man :)

No problem at all. We are all here to help.
