I got a major issue with my ssd or maybe my computer. My computer has been running great until last night when I did a spring clean inside the case, I unplugged everything, cleaned the inside of the case and plugged everything back in exactly where it was. As soon as I turned the computer on it became apparent that the boot time was very slow and in fact when I reset the computer it was stuck on the windows logo for a bout a minute. sometimes everything boots up fine, then the computer freezes intermittently in between tasks.
Now, I went into Samsung magician and did a benchmark and I was shocked to see that the results were very poor, I mean HDD poor!
I double checked all the settings i.e ahci, is it plugged in the sata 3 or not and everything is ok, in fact I did all that when I built the damn thing. Can it truly be because I simply unplugged everything when I was cleaning the computer that caused the issue? can static do this? because I wasn't grounded while I was cleaning the inside.
i walk across carpet in my socks while holding computer components. with that way parts are made now a days it will take alot of static to kill a computer part and also an ssd is enclosed.
have you changed anything with in the bios?
i work with compter all day and one thing i do see a lot of in SSDs is the Samsung 840s pro or none pro come back with issues. the sandisk ultras have a better left with customers.
you have ran a benchmark test and poor results. i would call Samsung on this one.
I tried another cable, same thing. Now something weird is happening. I was changing the dvi to hdmi and it took 5 minutes to pick up the signal and display the picture. With a dvi cable it instantly picks it up.
Also I uninstalled my graphics card and now when I am re installing the graphics card and installing the drivers the pc crashes and switches off. could it be a motherboard problem?
Also within magician for a very short period it was telling me that I was connected to sata3 but benches were still crap. Other hdd software was telling me the ssd was healthy. Now it's telling me that I need to connect to a sata3 again.
I spoke to Samsung this morning and they told me to do a factory secure erase and that should solve the problem. but I doubt it.
Well I just rang them back and told them the secure erase didn't work. They told me to send it back to them. Hopefully a new ssd should do the trick.
I'm just really worried that the motherboard is screwed. but what I was thinking was if the motherboard was damaged in any way surely it wouldn't work at all rather than being temperamental.
Update: yep it was my ssd. I had a Seagate hdd lying around and I installed windows on that and everything is fine. cant believe its only 8months since i installed it. Really Pissed with Samsung right now. it's going for RMA tomorrow. I'm going to sell it and buy a Kingston. Do you guys recommend any other ssd with same speeds as the 840 but more reliable?
TBH working with WD HDDs over the years has made me realise what beasts they're.
