My 2014 gaming PC

Okay guys I sat down and thought about this for a while and I've came to the conclusion of what my new PC is gonna be, I'm gonna get the parts around new year so I'm calling this my 2014 build, tell me what you think.

Fractal Design Define R4

Intel Core i5-4670K 3.40GHz

Cooler Master Seidon 120M

MSI Z87-G43 Intel Z87

PALIT JetStream GeForce GTX 760 OC 2048MB GDDR5 Graphics Card x2

Corsair Vengeance Pro Blue 8GB (2x4GB)

850W XFX Pro XXX Edition 80PLUS [P1-850X-XXB9]

Any help would be appreciated and yes, I have thought about getting a 770 and it's just not for me, I'm gonna go for SLI on this one.

MSI G43 doesn't support SLI. Grab a G45 if you want SLI features on an MSI motherboard.

Good PSU for SLI. Though, you would probably only need an XFX 650W-750W for dual cards. That will leave plenty of headroom for overclocking et cetera.

I would advise having a 120-144Hz monitor for 760SLI. You won't see the value of those cards at 1080p 60Hz. A single 760 or 770 would be more than sufficient for 1080p at 60Hz. This is because the refresh rate (Hz) acts like an FPS cap. so 60Hz = 60FPS maximum. A single 760 would grant 50FPS in a lot of games at 1080p

I'm also getting a 144Hz monitor so your suggestion is valid, but I've already purchased the motherboard as it was on sale, looks like I'll eitehr have to return it or go for a single card, I'm bummed out I was looking forward to having some SLI'd 760's :(

If you haven't got any 760s, grab a single 770. My friend uses a 770 at 144Hz, and his frame rate is well over 60FPS in many games. The G43 supports crossfire. The 7950 compares to a 770, for a little more than the 760, brilliant card from AMD.

If you do go single 770, you can save money on the PSU. It's not all bad. There's problems with trying to SLI and crossfire cards, quite the headache.

I want to get the full benefit of the 144Hz monitor so I want to be able to reach those frames, a single 770 wouldn't reach that sort of frame rate and from what I've heard Crossfire is nowhere near as good as SLI so I don't think I can do that either. Damn.

Crossfire issues have largely been fixed. People still have their opinions, but I can assure you that dual 7950s is inexpensive and pretty fucking awesome. 7950 always gets my vote over the 760, anyway. And I use all Intel and Nvidia on my personal rig.

Obviously, in 2014 there will be new AMD cards. But, when the 7950 is overclocked, it compares to an overclocked 770, and an overclocked 7970 (strangely). Solid card. Don't be upset with AMD. Dual 7950s would push 144Hz, or even a 1440p monitor. Got that 3GB of Vram sweet spot for modding games like Skyrim.

Are the Crossfire issues fixed with the new drivers? I heard that some people are still having problems, then again AMD have until New Year to sort everythinh out, then I can see if I want to reconsider. Thanks for all your help btw.

It has largely been fixed. SLI has problems, too. Can't say more than that. I believe that there are some software fixes to deal with any dual card setup that has common issues.

Hey Berserker... Joe here, I was wondering if you could take a look at my rig it is under Joe's (hopefully) awesome gaming PC... Thanks in advance... Joe
