My $2.5k Gaming and Editing rig for 2013 (AU)

I'm making this rig for both gaming and editing. Any suggestions or feedback would be appreciated.

p.s I'm planning on running the SSDs in RAID 0.

1. Ditch the agility 3's, they are notoriously unreliable, get hyperx 3k's or something.

2. For editing you will get better performance from a 3770k than the 3820 if I am not mistaken. but you could get a 3930k and you would be set. (maybe upgrade later from the 3820 to the 3930k).

3. I wouldn't bother getting a 1259 watt PSU, that system doesnt come close to using it and the trend for power consumption of GFX cards and CPU's is down.

You can follow my advice or not that is up to you, do what you think is best, and most importantly have fun building!

Cheers for the heads up on the SSDs. I swapped them and It costs a bit more now but I am going for reliability with this build. I will upgrade the CPU later when I have more money. Lastly I chose a large PSU because I wanted to have a lot of room for upgrading and that's one less part that I'll have to upgrade later.

gigabyte cards in sli is a no no... they're hot enough allready

The new OCZ Vector drives should be on par with something like the Samsung 840 Pro series, maybe consider that.. :)

I dont really see why you would get two GPUs when you can just buy a single 680 instead.. I know you will have better FPS and some think having two GPUs is cool, but I really dont see the reason, but that might just be personal opinion.

and as for the PSU, you wont ever need that wattage. remember that every manufactorer is really doing everything thay can to REDUCE the power requirements for avery component.. so unless you are going to get 4 x GTX680s at some point, then you wont need it.

and get a mechanical keyboard.. :P

Wouldn't the i7 3770k get =/better performance in both? I'd go for it because 32GBs should be enough for editing and unless you're going to upgrade the cpu later on.

From what I've read If you're getting 660ti's the way to go is either the MSI Twinfrozr or the Asus Direct CUII option. I can personally vouch for The MSI one, although I do not know how they run in SLI.

Instead of going for the SLI option, Why not take one 680? For the price of two 660ti's you could buy any version of the 680 you'd like + You'll always keep the option to add another one later, right?

It al depends on what you think you need in graphics performance, but if I were you I'd go for the single card option, esspecially if you planning on using a single screen..

I cba reading through the other posts so this is just my two cence:

Will you be using the i7 to it's potential? If not, get rid of it. The Sabertooth is overpriced, your just paying for the aesthetics. Will you be using all the RAM? If not waste ram = wasted money. Really no point in running the SSD's in RAID tbh. God, SLI 660ti? Way overkill PSU. A good quality 700 - 800 would be perfect. Not sure on the peripherals, but  I don't think they're great. Why Windows 7 Ultimate?

I would, go with something like this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/ufJs

Not using CUDA? Change the GPU to a 7950/7970. I did that very quickly, so anyone feel free to tell me where I went wrong.

Ok guys I made some of the changes which everyone suggested. FYI guys I chose the keyboard with a built in fan because my hands do get sweaty whilst gaming (I live in a hot environment). New link: http://pcpartpicker.com/au/p/ujm8

Be sure to let me know if I should swap out anything else.

Will you be using the i7 to its potential? Again, if not it's a waste. Change the CPU cooler to a Noctua NH-D14, ThermalRight Silver Arrow or a Phanteks PH-TC14PE. Really, really overpriced ram, change it to this: http://pcpartpicker.com/au/part/gskill-memory-f310666cl9d16gbxl or something cheaper. I'd change the SSD to a Samsung 830/840 or a Intel 330. Save yourself some money and change the GPU to a 670/7970, as they're both only 2% - 10% worse. Overkill PSU, change it to something along the lines of this: http://pcpartpicker.com/au/part/antec-power-supply-hcg620m

Thanks for the reply. Yes I will be OCing the i7 and using it for rendering both HD videos and 3D environments (UDK worlds). As for the ram you linked me I'm thinking 1333 will be too slow for my needs. (I've used it before and the general OS speed was awful) As for the SSD I was told that the HyperX 3K would be the most reliable so I'll stick with that. As for the GPU I'll stick with the 680 as I do want to have a very solid frame rate with current games and I wish to concider future game's GPU requirements. As for the PSU I'm keeping it large as I will be upgrading later on.

If you're doing editing and have valuable data, I suggest running a RAID1 or a RAID10 to protect yourself from failing drives and data loss. You can run it off the motherboard chipset, but personally I use a RocketRAID 622 eSATA RAID card, a Sans Digital 4 bay enclosure, and 4 Hitachi Deskstar 500GB drives... Maybe you wanna get another Seagate Barracude and run it in RAID1 off the SATA2 ports on the motherboard.

If you have money to blow, stick with the 680 and 850w PSU you choose. If you wanna save some money, get a or a 670 and a a 650w PSU. It's more economical to sell your current GPU and buy a new one every couple of years than it is to buy an expensive GPU and expect it to be good enough for the next 4+ years.
