Let me start off by saying im tired of consoles and will be making the switch to PC. my plans for the build will be using CAD, editing, and gaming (running multiple processes). Im not bias towards either processor company and Im on a considerably tight budget. what do you believe gives best performance per dollar was thinking around the $200 range on a cpu but would also like a socket that is believe will last. this will be my first ever build and will all the choices im getting overwhelmed
Sounds like AMD is your best bet, the FX-8350. The current AM3+ socket still supports AM3 CPU's, which are 4 years old. If history repeats itself, AMD's next socket will support AM3+ CPU's. Intel, on the other-hand, makes their socket obsolete seeimingly every 2 generations. So, after Broadwell, which will be a die-shrink of Haswell, Intel will likely introduce a new socket.
Thanks for the fast response that was one of the processors i was heavily considering and will most likely be the one i ultimately choose.
I've said this before putting a budget for each individual part is a very bad idea, give us the whole budget and I will be able to help you get a system you never thought you could afford
I came up with this what do you think and any recommendations?
<ul>
<li>CPU: fx-8350</li>
<li>MOBO: gigabyte ga-990fx-ud3</li>
<li>Ram: corsair vengance 1600mhz 8 or 16gb</li>
<li>PSU: corsair cx600</li>
<li>Case: cooler master elite 430</li>
<li>HDD: toshiba 7200rpm 500</li>
</ul>
wait, what? i can see me html code. did i waste my time?
i'll give recommendations if you give a budget, if all you have a budget left for is a gtx 540 then you have problems, if you plan on getting 4 titans you could do a lot better
no higher than $800. i realized i forgot to list the graphics card: zotac gtx650 2gb
For gaming, I'd say a 7850 or 7870 if you can fit it, but you might be happier with that zotac card. It's a good system, hopefully you'll have your upgrade options if AMD choses to keep backwards compatibillity.
