Multiplexed PCI NVMe M.2 DisplayPort adapter — Dumb idea?

I recently saw Wendell’s review of ASUS’ Sonic mATX board and I’m curious, seeing that board has a DIsplayPort slot built-in if it would be a ridiculously stupid idea for an M.2 adapter to exist with press-fit M.2 connection for inserting a 2240 M.2 storage device to make both the adapter and storage function on the same M.2 slot.

Especially considering Framework is reselling 2240 M.2 storage modules for Valve’s G1 Steam Deck, I cannot see how this is possibly a dumb idea. The connector could be hidden on the adapter’s face-down side for neatness sake, and a 2280 NVMe M.2 slot can be used to run two things so long the multiplexing can also fit in relatively well within the M.2’s formfactor.

Am I overlooking something? Is this just a really stupid idea only best described as a fool’s errand?
