Multiple(but different) graphics cards?

So I have 2 graphics cards and 2 displays. My main display is a 27" i use for games and the other is a 21" i use for non-intensive multitasking purposes. I was wondering if i could plug in the main display to my 6970 and the backup to my gtx 260. Would there be any issue with this? If the game knows to use my 27" as the main display will I be getting the full power out of the 6970 or will my system try some funky witchcraft on me? Physically I can support it no problem (power/space wise). Any input is much appreciated.

unless you'll be doing something that can take advantage of both cards (renders, mining, folding, etc.) there's really no advantage to running a display on each card rather than running both on a single card, running a desktop environment on a secondary monitor will have zero measurable performance loss

and god damnit i had this all typed out on the other topic

This works and was the only solution pre multi display gpu cards. We used to have to do this back in the day. I have never dealt with separate chipsets though I guess youll need to have catalyst and nvidia control panel installed but i am not certain. When I used to do this I ran ATI pci/agp/NuBus cards.

Ah okay, thanks. And sorry about that my Firefox whacked out and made me accidentally double post.

This will work. up until i had to give my dad my 6450 to use I was using it besides a Nvidia 240GT

the 240GT would be plugged into the main monitor and the 6450 to the side one. It worked just fine.

Depending on what monitor i played the game on it would use that card.

Both drivers should work side by side(as mine did). but do not expect them to work 100% smoothly in rending programs.
