Hey guys.
I am just researching this, since my financial situation won't allow me to go forth with realization of it for a couple of months. So here come the question...
I have a 21,5" 1080p VA monitor. I want to have a multiple monitors, meaning 2. My options are:
1: Buy something better, like 24" 1080p IPS for my main monitor and use the old one as a secondary whenever I'm "working"
2: Buy second monitor, the same model as my current one, so I will have 2 screens the same size and quality. This will open the door to Eyefinity setup later on, but that is just a dream at the moment.
So which option is better? Having two exact same monitors, or having larger better one for main monitor and whatever for second one?
It is not for gaming. I need the second screen mainly for visual space, since my current screen is only 21,5“.
If there is a third option I did not see - I am open to suggestions.
I have a triple monitor setup. And let me tell you: Eyefinity gaming is fun for about an hour or so. After that it kind of gets annoying to deactivate the eyefinity group for desktop work and activate it for games. Guess what: Most user interfaces does not scale well to 3x1920 by 1080. Performance will take a heavy hit too.
For Work I'd consider buying two used panels instead of one new one, depending on the work you do. I've got two 19inch 4:3 monitors in portrait mode. I wanted to say that monitors do not break, but I discovered a black spot on the edge of my old 22inch panel :/
Eyefinity will work on two monitors too, you know ;) They even support unequal resolutions. Although I'd advise you to have something with a similar pixel density, otherwise it will look really weird. I used to play Anno 1404 and 2070 (or Dawn of Discovery for the American Audience) on a dual monitor eyefinity group. 3rd person or FPS is not good on a dual monitor because the crosshair will be divided by the bezels. RTS and other strategy works great though.
But if you want to buy a new one: It really does not matter if it is the same or not. You will be having one of them at an angle to you anyway so color or brightness will be slightly off anyway. Even if you do artsy stuff you will probably only be doing color sensitive stuff on one display.
So basically my better option is to save up for something better like 24" for my main monitor and use the old one as a secondary whenever I need it...
Eyefinity gaming was just a thought actually. I don't really play huge amount of games, but Skyrim or Dark Souls Eyefinity would be like OMFG... But yeah... I figured it will not work well with most games. So yeah... I guess one good main monitor and whatever secondary would be better...
Off Topic question... Will there ever be something like 23-24" 1080p Freesync monitor? Cause so far only WAY bigger and way more expensive stuff has been available with Freesync...
I did some research. Yes, there are 1080p Freesync monitors, No, they are not imported in my F-ing country... Why should they.. Somebody may actually buy them...
Since you dont have that much money I think it would be an Option to buy the same monitor you have again. It should be available cheaper in eBay or wherever.
I have a 24" 120hz monitor and a 27" 60hz with perfect white balance. But the different screen sizes get a bit annoying and the different shades of white.
The thing is, i will still use only one monitor for gaming if i have 2. So i believe good 24" will be better again... I need the second one mainly to check things on it while i do my thing on the main monitor.
People told me, that in gaming the different sizes could become an issue, but i will barely use it for gaming. My 270X wil not be able to carry 3x1080p anyway...
I was looking in a freesync 24"1080p options, but 1st nobody import them here, and 2nd my GPU doesn't support freesync. However, i may still look for that. Sooner or later i will have to the GPU and then i will be ready for freesync.
Well that's the difference between working with pictures and coding. My setup does the white writing on black screen thing very well ;)
@psycho_666 Well then: get a nice HD display that will serve you well the next few years until 4K is the standard.
