My Ethernet port/network controller stopped working on my msi board. Itried installing the killer network suite but it says no hardware found, any idea?
running windows 7 Home prem 64 bit, it was working fine for about 4 months up until about a month ago, i havne't found a solution to it, :L and most articles i find online are people who have always had them not working. usually the motherboard grounding it'self on the case or a extra standoff shorting it out.
anyone have a solution?
have you tried getting the network drivers directly from the MSi website? Also, what exactly changed to cause it to stop working? A windows update maybe? Or a driver failure?
Well, i switched to a USB wifi adapter for a while, because i had to move my pc into a different room and didn't have a cord long enough, now that i have a different adapter, i can run a line to my pc, but it just doesn't work.
i'll try directly from msi
ok, let me know how the drivers from the MSi website turn out.
i downloaded the drivers directly from msi website, and when trying to install, the installer says, "you must have proper Qualcomm Atheros hardware installed in order to install Qualcomm Atheros killer network manager suite.
hmm...thats weird. is there something in your bios that lets you turn the network hardware on or off? Also, do you have the most up to date version of your bios? I have never heard of an Ethernet port not functioning or being detected, its usually the wifi hardware that has issues.
I've disconnected the wifi adapter, it's just USB and disabled the driver for it, sitll no luck, i'll update the bios, and then see if i can change around osme settings, i feel as if the wifi adapter might of disabled the ethernet port.
maybe. Sounds like something windows would do. Oh I see you are using a wifi adapter, you don't need that Ethernet port so Ima just gonna make it disappear.
Yeah, i switched to the second bios, tried re installing drivers, siffed through the bios looking to see if there are any network settings, didn't find anything, and it still doesn't work :L
i guess i'm screwed?
any way i can return this baord, and get a new one? dunno if there is and or was a warranty on it. got it from amazon about 5-7 months ago
try a CMOS reset and see if that does anything. Also, are there any secondary network chips on the board or is it just the one chip? Maybe an intel network chip?
don't think there is an intel chip onboard, i'll try the cmos reset
i'll get back to you in a few min on the results
It would suck to lose a Mobo because of a Ethernet driver fail, so I hope you can get it fixed.
are the lights blinking at the port?
No, the activity lights aren't coming up :L
i've reset the CMos, and unplugged everything, took out the motherboard to make sure there weren't any stray standoffs possibly shorting it out.
it's probably dead, happend to my asus board too. just ended up buying a 25 dollar intel network card.
ok, the best thing I can think right now is to get a network pci card so that you don't have to junk your motherboard.
yeah, i'll probably have to go buy a network card then :L
