Basically im planning to get a new build under way, video card I already pretty much have selected 980Ti maybe two as for the processor the i7 5820K seems very good and now im left with a motherboard selection process and I need a x99 one but as much as I know about any other part in a PC when it comes to motherboards im still a newb I know all the basics but havent been keeping up to date on whats new in the field - in the latest pistols build the motherboard MSI x99s SLI PLUS was featured which sounds like a very good option but it seems very cheap as compared to almost any other out there which is good but I wanna know if im making any sacrifices in overall performance if I go with this motherboard and im glad to pay more if there is a better option... so guys/girls please help me chose an x99 motherboard. (also sorry for my poor english not really mi native language)
Weeeeelllll, I own a Z87 MSI board and I am 90% satisfied. I mean that it's something that you can set and forget and it will soldier on until forever. What I don't like is the UEFI. It's not bad per se, but I got the feeling that is slightly clunckier to work with than other brands.
If I were buying a X99 mobo, I'd give a serious look at an ASUS one. Great components and I think they sort of nailed the UEFI. There's a video of Logan and Wendell that go over the various versions of there mobos.
If you're in the US or can get stuff from the US, give also EVGA a look
Now, my idea is that any X99 is a hyper enthusiast option, so any big brand will do the work, and I think the MSI is a good option, absolutely, I can only rely my experience with the UEFI on a different chipset, which is not much I know. Why don't you give search youtoube about the MSI Uefi on X99, if you think it's fine and it fits your budget, go for it. But if you don't like the UEFI or features, look at the ASUS! :)
Have a good one!
Pistol uses that particular board.
But i read diffrent user experiances with it.
I personaly think that its not realy a great motherboard.
According to This video from Tech YEs, it looks to me that the board, has some quality issues.
I have also readed more people who had a failing board.
So it looks like that the vreg design on this board isnt that top notch.
I would personaly look at an Asrock or Asus board.
Those seem to be the most trouble free of all X99 boards.
Especialy Asrock, those boards offer realy good value for money, with feutures that do make sense.
Its of course not just for giggles, that allot of reviewers use Asrock X99 boards.
Like wendell, Logan.
