Hi gang,
We’ll get to the point with my questions first and you can peruse background information afterwards:
- Anyone running Fedora on MSI X570 creation? Any gotchas/problems?
- I cannot seem to load MSI Memory QVL on their site (looks like it’s broken from Chrome Dev tools). Is there any other location where I can download their Memory QVL for their boards?
- In a web application stack (Linux, Node, Babel compilation of many tiny text files, 10Gb+ MySQL databases, PHP backend) what should I look to optimize in my new build? CPU speeds, cores, memory speed, disk IOPS?
Background:
I build a computer every 5-6 years or so for work (lots of web dev, arch and app sec on Fedora) and haven’t really had a modern powerful system in a long time. (Fun story: I just cooked my used 2009/2010 era Xeon machine trying to fold proteins). As you probably surmise from the questions, I’m looking to build a dev machine that would last me at least 5 years, hopefully longer.
My planned build so far:
Processor: 3950x
Motherboard: MSI Creation X570 (for 10Gbe and fast memory support)
Memory: Still trying to determine what is best here.
Disk: Still trying to determine if my needs would be served better by PCIe 4.0 disk or save the dinero and put it towards faster memory.
I plan on booting Fedora natively and using docker to spin up the 2-5 sites I’m working on currently. All of which come with multigigabyte databases and upwards of 100000 tiny text files which need to be interpreted by either php-fpm or babel.
