I currently have this card in my PC and have been thinking about SLI with the same card. But when I look ANYWHERE this card is either not in stock or extremely overpriced from resellers on amazon($800 USD). Why is this card m.i.a everywhere?
They sold off the old stock very fast when the 9xx seiers came out as they only performed slightly better for more money. So they got rid of them to leave people with no other choice but a 980.
Ask on the buy sell trade subforum here and see if anyone is upgrading and selling one.
Hit up amazon and eBay, you might have to go second hand but there should be a few around.
There's also the alternative of selling your current 780 to buy a new single GPU. Unless you really need the SLI setup for some reason, upgrading single-card setups can be more efficient in the long run. Especially if it's for gaming, as SLI/Crossfire is often poorly implemented.
I agree with GabDube. A great single card upgrade would be well worth your time in both money and power efficiency (probably). The only reason i'd suggest going sli/crossfire is if you wanted a @Wendell level monitor count =P .
tried looking on ebay?
Try checking www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_end_gpus.html - - find the highest rated card for your price range. Then you can compare the performance/cost of the dual get 780 ti's.
You know I keep seeing everyone saying sli has issues. Well I havent seen anything other than games in early access having any issues. I happen to have to gtx 780s sli and I love it.
I'm with you on this. I have yet to experience this myriad of problems people keep talking about with SLI. Did you guys have a bad experience with SLI at some point or is it simply an echo chamber response? Getting a very fast card when you build a new PC and then later getting a second hand, second card can stretch a systems lifespan quite a bit for cheaps.
