MSI 760 HAWK Quality vs 7950's?

760 Hawk by MSI. Basically what they did with GTX 770 (sorta). 770 is 680 on steroids

A GTX 760 on steroids is what msi has done with the HAWK. Advertised high quality components..something we all love to see

their are 2 reviews up showing 770 performance out of the hawk..or close enough

Is the quality worth it?

Is there a better buy?

What waterblock would this card be compatable with?

Would you guys recomend this card over AMD's 7950 or 7970 options because of its well built quality and/or performance?

You need to move this thread over to the gpu forums. other than that, I have no advice on cards since I don't know anything about the amd line-up.

considering its about 2/3 the price I payed for my gtx 670 power edition from them (Tech's more costly here in england) I'd say its pretty good for the price. Although its more than the 7950, and about as good as a 680 you say? I'd look at some 7950 benchmarks and compare them to this card if you can, if not, compare them to a 680.

it performs better than 7950 and matchs the 680 for a fraction of the price

This card is an overclockers card. Its made with the ability to do 3x the normal voltage increace. Its a GREAT card if you dont need extreme memory bandwidth because the FLOPS would be out of this world if you can keep it cool. If you plan to overclock it I'd reccomend getting somthing capable of 300+ tdp in cooling.

Check this link out, It compares overclocked cards to other overclocked cards. The 7950 when OC'ed is a BEAST, also comes with 3GB VRAM (Skyrim Mods). Also there are a couple good 7950 overclockers under 250.

im planing on water cooling the hawk and my max resolution is 1080p. i will get a 1440p monitor and thus sli this bad boy in the coming year.

is this a bad decision...im planing on heavily overclocking this car due to watercooling.

im not avoiding the fact the 7950 is a great competitor to the Hawk. i just cant seem to overlook the quality msi is offering here.

show me a QUALITY BUILT AMD card under $300 that can handle heavy overclocking and i will gladly dis regard the Hawk.

that 3gb. 384bit memory bandwidth is bugging me too...i want that

edit: i see that the saphire vapor x 7950 overclocks extemly well. but lack a astically pleasing waterblock (cant find good looking waterblock only ugly universal one due to costom pcb on 7950)

if this problem could be handled also with a backplate, i will be going all Red Team for this build =)

if not...nvidia once again..sadly

Vapor X is voltage locked. Look at the MSI Twin Forzr III

think i might actually go with the twin froza 7950. the price is screaming at me!

but first im going to do my rearch. quality build, overclockability, watercooling compatibility and will see if this is the best 7950 out there

if there is a better card i should be looking at under 300 please say as i will love to examine its insides amd debate some more

There is an HIS IceQ x2 but it's the same price as the 7970 that has the exact same cooler.

It's 10 dollars over price but it's an amazing card. This thing overclocks like crazy. Easily beats out the GTX 770 when overclocked and reaches levels of the 780 when extremely overclocked.

Definetly get this card if you can. You also get 3 free games..

definitely? I was looking at that card, and looking to give it a strong overclock...

Well isnt your comment convenient. i was just going to ask about that card. i see that the hawk does not compare anymore.

NVIDIA cards are...for lazy people that want out of the box performance for more than its worth

so like i was saying does the msi twin froza differ much from the more expensive his card.

his 7970 $310 VS msi 7950 $225

is the his worth the 85bucks...that i can use on the waterblock for the msi card??

Well if you overclock the 7950 it can beat the 770.

If you overclock the 7970 it will reach speeds of the 780.

The 7950 will be enough, but if you want it to be "futureproof" I suggest going with the 7970.

i was hoping to go duel 7950's

and seeing i could get a head start by being able to purchase watercooling equiptment with the savings from msi 7950. i say that be good

but if i go with the loud his 7970 i wont be able to watercool it anytime soon and will be limited to air cooling limits.

i feeling a little cheep...sinc you mentioned futureproof...maybe i use msi cheep card until 8000 series is released by amd. then sell the card and upgrade to better futureproof meterial

i do see the performance gap between th 7970 and fhe 7950 though but also the price gap..which is just for which ever one is chosen

I just switched over from a gigabyte 760 to the HIS 7950 and dam that 3Gb of ram is SO useful to me because of my skyrim. Before skyrim was dropping down into the 30's and crashing a lot. I was hoping the extra memory would fix that and it dam sure did. Solid 60 fps and no crashing anymore. Thats just me though, according to afterburner I use 2.5Gb on average during skyrim. It also performs a wee bit better than my overclocked 760 in heaven. They're both awesome cards, just needed more memory.

7950 dominates the 760 at the best of times. I don't suppose the Hawk is going to make up the difference? I'd just grab a quality 7950. Comes with free games and that 3GB of vram sweet spot - ideal for mods.
