from what i can tell you just need to plug both in and drag the files from one to the other but please dont quote me on that as i could be wrong your best plan would be go check a computer tecnician at pc world or something or ask on microsoft .com
That's not going to do it...That will cause you a lot of problems and likely render your PC unbootable.
What you will need is a program like Paragon Hard disk Manager 14 that can migrate your OS to an SSD and is compatible with Win8.1.
It is very straight forward to use and as far as I am aware, you can use the trial version to do this.
You can't just copy and paste your OS to another drive because the drive you copy to will not have any boot data on it, so the BIOS won't recognise it as a bootable OS because it has no boot.ini. Paragon will set up a boot.ini for the drive you want to migrate to.
Also, if you don't want the programs on the SSD (though I am not sure why), you are going to have to uninstall them all after the migration to the SSD, and then reinstall them on another drive.
Again, dragging and dropping won't work because of all the registry issues that it will cause. Most programs don't work as portable installations so if you try to just drag and drop, the majority of programs won't start from their new location, or will have serious issues if they do start.
