Mouse options

Hi

Hoping the gestalt can help me. There are so many choices for mice out there its overwhelming.

I have had a Mionix Naos 7000 for just over three years. Used pretty much all day everyday, especially as I went full time home working during the pandemic.

It’s started being weird so its time to retire it. For the moment I am back on a Logitech track ball which is working fine.

I really liked the size and (winged?) design of the Naos so I could just go for its newer version, the Naos Pro but I would like to try something else.

This mouse is going to be mainly used for work (in Linux) with some gaming on the side (sometimes in Windows). Part of me is saying ‘sod it’ just buy an MX Master 3(S) but I would prefer a wired (2m cable) mouse if possible. The reason for this is mainly to avoid another battery powered device with its built in life span.

Is their anything else out there on the large side, wired with a winged design for a palm grip? I really don’t care about weight and so long as the sensor is above 3200 DPI I it will be fine.

Thanks for your feedback.

I know you said you would prefer wires but have been very happy with my MX3. I also used my buddies Logitech trackball (the newest one, don’t remember the model) and really liked it as well. I remember someone here talking about another mouse brand that was oriented towards engineering and CAD that was supposed to be great but I can’t remember the name of it.

As an owner of many different models of MX master mice, I would highly recommend picking one up. It’s by far my favorite mouse and is well worth it, especially because you can often find them for much less than $100.

I see MX Master 2Ses on Amazon for ~$70. The differences from one model to another are minor (mostly software nonsense), so go for the cheapest one you can find.

If you’re willing to wait for the 4 to come out (understandable if you’re not) you will probably see them dump 2 and 2Ses on Amazon and at Best Buy for ~$50 (I got some OGs for $50 each from Best Buy a few years back and they’re still working great).

The lack of a wire is the worst part, but you’ll learn to live with it. You can keep it plugged in all the time so you don’t have to charge it, and the dongle is reasonably low-latency. I just keep a $30 G203 around for when I need a wired mouse (servers, etc).

For work you can’t go wrong with a MX master. Though I’d get a cheaper 2s and a gaming mouse if you are competitive.

If you want rocket jump ninja has a mouse search tool that takes your hand size, grip style, and shape preferences to match a mouse

Thank you for your replies.

I have ordered an MX Master 3S from a local retailer, which I can collect today. I could have gotten a discount on a 3 from Amazon but I wanted the ability to return it easily if it doesn’t ‘fit’ right for me.

Thanks for the tool. That is handy. I will bookmark for the future.

I have had a search and it comes back with

CORSAIR GLAIVE
Roccat Kone Aimo
Roccat Kone EMP

which are interesting but none a really my bag, especially with all the RGB silliness (I am sure it can be turned off).
