Mouse and Headset for Gamer+Artist

Pretty straight forward, but I'm on a budget and pissed off so I'm making a thread. I'm a college student needing to replace my headset and my mouse. I'd like to spend no more than $100, so I know it's asking for a bit much since quality is in question here.

Currently, I have the CM Storm Devastator keyboard and mouse bundle. It has served me very well for nearly two years. But the mouse's left and right buttons have never had a solid response and I basically have to mash them to get them to register now after 2 years of use. Very not good for video games (or Photoshop for that matter). So I'm using an old, cheap Onn mouse because its L/RMB have a very solid "click" to them and never fail to register input. I need a mouse with at least two side buttons that has a very solid "feel" to the buttons and is sure to always register when I put pressure on them ( don't like audible clicks, I like tactile clicks - think Cherry Browns on a keyboard). LEDs are welcome because I never have the lights in my room on unless I, well, need them.

For a headset, I have an Afterglow and I'm not very satis... no, no... IT'S TOTAL SHIT DON'T EVER BUY AFTERGLOW THOSE IDIOTS DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT THEY'RE DO- /end rant.
So... yeah, just need a headset that has reasonably good sound, cushion, and has a connection and software setup that actually works OMFG AFTERGLOW I SWEAR- Actually, I should say that the mic is very important as I use both chat systems for games and voice recording for media.

If you know of anything that is solid quality that doesn't break the bank, let me know! Thanks in advance.

Well does it HAVE to be a headset? because a desktop mic is going to give you much better audio quality

far as mice go,the M601 is pretty solid

Eh... I've been wanting to get a desktop mic because of that very reason. The problem is, I'm not sure if I can afford both right now. This headset's input setup is just so stupid that I can't get it to to play sound at the same time as my 5.1 speakers, for example (strangely enough it used to work). I have to go into the game's settings or WIndows settings and change it every single time I change between outputs. It's more than a little annoyance because I have to take breaks from wearing a headset because it gives me headaches (that's more of a comfort design issue - I'm sure comfy headsets wouldn't be so bad).

However... if you know of a headset that is just audio output (i.e. a dedicated pair of music headphones) with good quality and is comfortable and you also know a dedicated desktop mic that would work well together... hell yeah, if you have anything in mind. If it goes a little over $100 but you can recommend it, I'll see about it.

EDIT: also, the mic on this Afterglow is garbage. It makes voice recording tedious.

Well the Samsom GO mic is 30 bucks and pretty good

And here's a bunch of headsets around $50, and then that's about everything

Oh, that Samson mic can be clipped onto the edge of my desk? I could work that with a pop filter easily (I move stuff around on my desk a to make room for my teacup) so an easy, screw free stand or clamp is a must. Do you have any other suggestions on that?

Also, this was on the related tab of the mouse you linked. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KKAQYXM?psc=1
It's... very cheap, and that's worrisome. What caught my eye (other than the color and crackling design; I love that kind of artwork) was the shape of the mouse, especially the shape on the right side. That would perfectly fit how I hold a mouse. Have you ever heard of that company? I like the design but if it's as cheap as I think it might be, I'll wear it out in a few months.

You could just throw like a sock over it, or just cotton balls or any kind of material to act a pop filter

I have one of those, that mouse is utter crap, from the sensor to the grip on it, I had no where to place my pinky on it

Heh, that's true. I've used a cotton ball stuck over my headset mic and wrapped in tape before. Looks like crap, but it works.

What about the sensor was bad? And do you mean it was difficult to grip as in little traction for your fingers?

In reply to "I have to go into the game's settings or Windows settings and change it every single time I change between outputs."; look into Nircmd to change the sound output. I have three audio sources active at one time and like to change the default to play out of one source based on what I'm doing. If I'm doing chores i use my headset, movies: 7.1 headphones, gaming, 5.1.
For something simple of just two audio sources, it will be simple. one line in a batch file.

It's just a mess overall to use, the sensor had a large lift off distance so that made it inaccurate, and the feet on the mouse were like 1mm thick, so they would have worn out really fast, the M601 is easily the best of the cheap Chinese mice

Although the RAT1 for 30 bucks is neat, Dunno how the sensor is on it

In the end I didn't get either of those mice. I found another cheapo that had good reviews that had a shape I really liked as well as LEDs. If it turns out to be crap, I'm not going to be too worried. It was on sale for around $10. That mic you suggested I also didn't get, but I found another mic by the same brand (IIRC) that was on sale, about $45 down from $130. Although I had seen that Tek episode, I'd forgotten about it. In the end, sometimes you just need a nudge to find just what you need. The suggestions tab on everything you linked lead me to something I think I'll really like and I doubt I'd have stumbled upon them otherwise. Now I just have to wait on 4-8 day shipping... thanks again!

Post what you got dude.

Got this headset. I was going to get that Superlux 668 that Logan talks about in the video but... damn, does it look uncomfortable. So I'm giving this one a try.

In getting this link, I noticed the price had gone up so I bought it at just the right time. I didn't pay $51 for it :D
EDIT: derp, that's a different seller.

I originally misspoke about the price of the mouse. Oh well, this one is a blunder anyway.

Cool. The Samsons are basically the HD 681's with velour pads so that was a nice choice mate.May them serve you a long long time .

A relative of mine has the Samson Meteor mic. It sounds pretty damn good, especially for the price.
