Motherboard sparked and caught fire but still works

So I was building my pc for the first time and I plugged in a wire into the PSU then into the nzxt fan controller. I then plugged in the fan controller into the motherboard and turned it on. The system fan 2 was the most reachable one so I plugged it into that and the cylinder thing next to it caught fire. I quickly turned it off and did some research and found you're not supposed to plug it into the motherboard. I turned it on again and it seems to work fine now.

That fan header is probably dead. Plug it through a molex connector already? Hopefully nothing else happens, that sounds pretty extreme.

Sounds like you shorted a capacitor.

Wow that was fast! Ya I plugged it into the molex connector and it seems to be working fine now but I guess I just overloaded it with power from plugging the end into the motherboard.

Is that bad?

Haha any fire is bad. Hopefully it just killed that fan header and everything else is ok

Ya hopefully! Thanks for your help everyone! I'll definitely continue using this site.
