Motherboard seems to cause "noise" with USB mic. Buy a PCI USB Hub?

I have a MSI Z87-G41 motherboard. The mic is a brand new Audio Technica AT2020USB.

I got the motherboard real cheap bundled with my 4770k.

I'm having a problem where the sound isn't very condensed. I've watched dozens of other video tests of the mic, and it sounds great, even from 6-8 inches. For me to get that quality, I have to lower the audio all the way down to 1 in Windows, and talk real close to the mic.

Here's a test of the AT2020 at 6% volume. It's a cardioid mic, and pointed away from the keyboard/mouse, but you can hear them quite well even so.

This isn't the only mic this happens to. I have an Antlion 4.0 ModMic, and it has a similar issue with hissing/noise.

Should an AT2020 pick up that much noise?

Would a PCI USB hub work to give a clearer connection?

It will really suck if I have to buy a new motherboard just to get a $100 mic to work.

Have you tested the mic in another computer? I know you said you have it with another mic too but still.

It is possible that it is getting too much power which is why it's hissing.

Where is it plugged in? Front USB ports of your case or rear IO or your motherboard?

Yes, I tested it on a laptop and it didn't have to be nearly as quiet, I had it to about 50% volume and it sounded good.

I've tried both the front USB ports and the ports on the motherboard.

Can you try a different USB cable?

It could be the motherboard since you don't have the issue on another computer a pci one might fix the issue.

Just try some other USB ports on your motherboard.

Or try any ports used by your front header(s)

Yup, I tried the one that came with the mic and one that I had been using for a printer I got recently. Same Result.

If you have the same issue with the Modmic 4.0 (which has a 3.5mm jack) it could be the quality of the motherboard. Any chance you can try it out on someone else's PC or a laptop?

btw, what motherboard do you have?

Yeah I suppose ill have to put money aside for a mobo. I have a Z87-G41. I got it for les than 100 when I built my current PC.

Would you happen to know a mobo good enough to get the job done?

My build:
NZXT Phantom White 001 Case.
I7 4770k
R9 280X
Corsair TX650 watt
16Gb 1600mhz Ram

I dont overclock or anything.

Yeah this is most likely caused by the lower quality mobo.
However to be sure, just try the mic on a diffrent computer.
Maybe you could ask a friend with a better mobo to test it out?

dude i literally have the exact same problem. my blue yeti has a buzzing noise only on my pc doesnt matter which port (mobo or case). on my brothers pc its completely fine. how did you fix it? can you help me? my discord is @alminnn
