Hey guys, just need some help with this motherboard my brother is selling me.
Its an Asus M3N72-D 750a chipset (I believe anyways).
Now the problem I have is I want to put a 965 black in it but he told me that if I update the bios the board could crash and I'll be sent back to the stone age with this crappy computer I currently have.
Can anyone help me? I want to game but I'll cry if I mess up this board.
According to ASUS's CPU support list, you need to have a board with revesion 1.01G and BIOS version 1301. I'm assuming if you're board's PCB is lower than 1.01G, then the BIOS wont help anyway. However, if you have the right board, but an earlier BIOS, you must have at least BIOS version 1301 for the CPU to properly function, though it's recommended to have the latest (which is 1510).
Updating the BIOS is a little bit risky, but there are instructions and if you don't touch the computer at all during the BIOS flash, there shouldn't be an issue. I believe ASUS has a BIOS flashing utility. It should be under the BIOS Utility section on the downloads page.
Thank you very much for the advice.
