i just bought an intel core i7 4790k and i want to know if the MSI Z97 PC Mate LGA 1150
will work with it i will be using a evga gtx 970 i do not plan to overclock with it i just want a board that i can use for gaming and not have to worry about it overheating the vrm

Will it last very long if you overclock it. Ehhhhh debatable.
I think if you just point a bunch of fans on it to keep it cool you should be fine.
Do you already have the 970? because the 390 is the better option overall
Otherwise, it's probably fine given that it's a Z97 board, so long as the VRMs have heatsinks it'll be fine

Honestly, the 4790K is plenty fast at 4.4GHz out of the box. You should be fine if you don't plan to overclock, you could probably pick up a better cooler though instead of the stock Intel cooler.
