i have been looking around i dont feel like my question been answered so i will ask here,
i have a B85 Fatal1ty ASRock MB and wanted to up grade to the ASRock Fatal1ty Z97, both same chipset of 1150 and wanted know the outcome of my OS Windows 8 on my hhd? will i have to buy a new OS and start from scratch again or will it be fine? thank you
I think that Windows 8 will whine when you switch out your motherboard. I believe you can give Microsoft a call and tell them that you've changed a piece of hardware in your computer. They'll then give you another code for Windows 8, and likely un-validating the old one.
I haven't fiddled with Windows 8, but this is what I've heard.
Well I went from a H87i to a Z97 and it worked just fine, also changed the CPU and SSD. I know that if were XP and it didn't work then it wouldn't let me get past the boot screen, i'm not sure if that's how it works with 7/8.
HOWEVER! this is important:
You should re install anyway because it'll be almost impossible to get rid of ALL the old drivers to put new ones in, so I would just re-install (based on experience).
You can get your Windows 8 Key with this program LINK
Careful, click custom installation or it will install some junk programs. Once you start it just click on what version your Windows 8 is and write down the Product key so you have it later when you do a fresh install of windows. It will also find the product key of other programs you have installed if you have misplaced them.
Well the great thing about that is I have nothing but games install I never use it for other uses so its okay, I don't mind. Okay. Once I add the new motherboard then it will recognize the hhd and want to format it pretty much on booting it up?
