Most expensive AMD vs Intel processor

I was derping around on the internet, and i ended up looking at the most expensive processor i could find both from Intel, and AMD... i noticed that there is about 13300 kroner difference (2349.33 dollars) and was wondering; which one would be ther better choice?

The AMD is the FX-8350 8 Core Processor, which runs at a stock speed of 4.0 GHz, a 8mb L2, and 8mb L3 cache

The Intel is the Xeon E5-2690 Processor, running at a stock speed of 2.9 GHz, but with a smashing 20mb L3 cache.

Which one would be the better for gaming, and which for heavy duty rendering?
Hoping for a reply, thanks

(btw, im not getting any of them, I was simply wondering :) )

the xeon is using an older architecture and will as fast in gaming as the 8 core. but in rendering the xeon will distroy the fx 8350. if your looking for a rendering cpu from amd you would need an Opteron http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113307

There's not even comparison the Xeon is more for pro's looking for rendering their hardcore 3d animations.

If you should compare I'd say the i7 3930K (maybe even an i7 extreme) and the AMD fx 8350..

Denmark rules ;)

The Xeon will absolutely destroy the 8350 in terms of rendering power. Although it's a server/workstation orriented processor. As for gaming, the performance difference will be pretty minimal.

I believe you left out the tasks that the AMD will smash the xeon with... just in case you don't know what these tasks are:

anything to do with compiling, the extra cores will make the experience mindblowingly faster, especially with C and most of its derogatives (C++,C#, etc.)

well, that is really what its mainly best for... I didn't say "that's all it's good for" because compiling is a major task that needs attention from more people; it's also the future... present... and past
