I had to change my wifi usb from the asus N13 VerB to the tp link Archer T4U V3 and I have no idea how to install the drivers. Help plz!
Which distro? Find out what wireless chipset the TPlink uses and search the web for references to that. I’m sure you’d be able to find something, it’s generally only very bleeding edge hardware that’s not yet supported by the kernel.
TP Link has an installation guide but really this is a terrible model for Linux.
The section for mint 18 should work.
Oh, OP you’re in for a helluva ride…
be ready to struggle with this 88x2bu for the rest of its life span
also note the driver’s name, if anything you can search for it on the web
but first try what Adubs posted, I myself struggle a bit with rtl8192eu, also from tp-link, but mine is more popular and there are good tutorials on the internet
Well this looks like its going to suck What cheap 5 ghz usb should I be looking for.
whats your use case?
steam youtube and a bit of game streaming
what operating systems?
are you putting this in a desktop?
is this a mobile solution?
USB dongles are often not the way to go but if we’re really limited to USB then you’ll likely have to compromise.
mint 20 hp z420. It has to be usb as the pcie x1 and the x8 are dead the x16 has a video card in it.
then youll need to compromise on either ease of driver installation or the speed of the card.
Most if not all Intel wifi cards are built into the kernel so they work out of the box with no needed configuration.
“Just works”
unfortunately there arent any USB intel wifi chipsets
oh it has to be usb?
dang
yeah, the one area where linux support is basically garbage
I’ve had good luck with Panda wireless dongles in ubuntu 18 + 19… can’t speak to compatibility with 20 as I haven’t upgraded anything yet, but I’d guess that at least the newest models will work. Anywho, they’re cheap and maybe worth a try.
