I'm building a computer and everything's going fine, but I can't decide wether to get one very good and big monitor (1440p, etc.) or three smaller ones (1080p). What are your thoughts thoughts and/or experiences?
Also, my graphics card is the NVIDIA GTX 980 4GB, would it be able to support the tree 1080p monitors? Because it says "max resolution: 4096 x 2160". Or does that mean that is the maximum for one monitor?
It depends what you want from the monitor/s, If you play certain kinds of games or do a lot of productivity then 3 or UHD is better but if you play mostly AAA then 1440 or UHD is better. 4096x2160 is for one monitor.
With a large expensive UHD you can still do ultra-wide (with black bars) if you want to I would imagine.
If you play competitive FPS then UHD with fixed refresh or anything with 60hz is no use.
If you play a lot of driving games or space flight sims then 3x1080p 144hz is nice but then you're stuck with a low resolution for everything else like GTAV which looks terrible in certain places without high res and AA.
Yeah, gaming on three monitors is an extremely niche thing, and if you don't have very small bezels it can be an outright annoyance. But in terms of productivity, it is amazing, I (used to) run a dual monitor set up, oen being 1200p and the other being 1080p. Opened up a lot of real estate for me to work on things in photoshop without being interrupted or blocked when I wanted to check my computer specs or see what's up in Skype/IRC or what is playing on Foobar. I never played a game with the second monitor enabled though, minus Supreme Commander which allows you to have multiple views.
