Just upgraded my desktop and now I'm looking for a new monitor.
I was originally thinking going 4k but it looks like they still have a way to go before there is going to be a quality 4k monitor that is affordable. I should also say that this is primarily for editing... I want more real estate. Yes I will do some gaming on it, but thats no my first concern.
I was originally thinking of the ASUS PB278Q 27 2560X1440
its about $500
and I had been saving for one until I saw the LG 21:9 Ultrawide 25UM65 at Costco for $250.
thats half the price I was planning on spending. Now I have watched the videos on the Korean 1440 monitors and i'm not sure I want to take the risk (as small as it maybe) and I want to know I will have some support if something goes wrong.
What do you all think? Is the extra height worth double the price?
Also I need to be able to connect it easily to my macbook pro as well... i am hoping to use it as larger/second monitor.
I am open to any suggestions and any feedback especially if you have used either monitor.
As an owner of a 1440p korean for over 8months now I have to say I am very pleased with it and have had no issues with it. I personally need the extra vertical space. however I do love playing games in wide-screen. (I'm saying for a 3440x1440 panel)
From a Pixel-Price ratio the 21:9 is definatly worth it.
On both monitors you will be able to view two (maybe 3) full sized documents or windows. The only difference being at 1440p you could possibly fit 4 things (one in each corner) but then it gets crammed vertically a little bit.
If I was in your situation i would get the 1440p (so long as you do have the proper connections on your macbook [not all DVI] is equal) Then I would get the 21:9 and then a korean.
I have a dual link DVI to thunderbolt/display port adapter but I have read mixed reviews as far as it working with macbook pros... I also have HDMI on my laptop but I dont know if that would work for 1440.

I got the X-star Dp2710 (samsung PLS panel) the one linked below except I paid the $30premium for pixel perfect. 'though I'm not sure if they still have that offer.
As soon as the 21:9 monitors were shown off at CES back in 2013, I've been a massive fan of them. Though, I have yet to own one, my friend has one.
Unfortunately his is one of the first LG models, and gaming in 21:9 has quite a bit of input lag. However, Linus has recently reviewed the new revisions of the LG 21:9 line, and they've fixed almost every issue that was previously present in the models. The input lag is acceptable on the 1440p 21:9 (quite pricey though) and the input lag is good for anything not competitive on the 29in 1080p 21:9 monitor.
I'm very interested in what Asus offers with their 1080p 21:9, and from what I've heard, the Dell is terrible for input lag
For reference, the 29in model is height-wise the same size as a 23in monitor. I don't know about your preference for size, but at about 2-2.5 feet from the monitor the 29in monitor feels the most comfortable of the 21:9 sizes imo. But if you like the idea of the 25in monitor, as I believe the one you mentioned is, then up to you. I'd prefer the 1440p in that case.
