So i recently found i can overclock my monitor through the Nvidia drivers. My monitor is a Samsung SyncMaster 2033sw that runs at 1600x900 @60hz. I can push it all the way to 87Hz before the display stops working, but at 80Hz an anouying display pops up on my monitor telling me its going to self destruct or something like that. Right now its set at 75Hz and i was just curious if anyone else has experimented with this before?
that is this madness !?!
i would be worried about overheating your monitor
Overclocking works phenomenally on korean monitors. I have mine at 96hz no artifacts. Mine can do 120hz, but I get some black lines at the top of the screen. So far no issues. Not sure about normal monitors...
Thats Damn impressive! No, Heat is a concern but I've kept an eye on it (pun intended) and it hasn't really gone up at all from the heat it usually generates (I'm assuming around 95F to 110F because its warm to the touch)
I used to run my 1920x1080 SyncMaster S23B550 at 80Hz 24/7 and the temps never got much higher than normal (used a laser temp reader). However I have reset it to normal settings because it fucked with my brightness and color settings.
I'm able to run my 1440p korean at 113Hz (pixel clock maxes at 470mHz)
it has some weird flickering at lower brightnesses though
I usually run it at 96Hz for the lols But the Nvidia drivers are not happy with me right now so I'm at stock 60
There is one issue with forcing higher refresh rates using the custom resolutions, many full screen games do not support them and thus your monitor is likely to just revert to the stock refresh rate. (this can cause some applications to crash, e.g., if you have VLC open in the background, and you paused the video, but did not close the player)
