Monitor making high pitched noise

Hey I've just noticed that when my monitor (Acer 21.5 inch 1080p) makes a high pitched noise while on standby it changes when the light on the monitor is on or off is this something I should be worried about or not?

if it breaks , then worry

Does the acer monitor plug in with a normal power cable (has an internal PSU) or does it have an external power brick?

External power brick

Is the sound coming from the brick or the monitor?

Faily certain from the monitor but I'll check in the morning if it is or not

Either way it could be the power brick at fault, if you can find a cheap replacement, then I'd try that.

could also POSSIBLY be dirty power.

sounds like coil whine.

It's the ghosts of chinese factory workers that built it.

Is there an RF choke on the power cord? Sometimes the cord will pick up something and it will bleed over into the device it's plugged into.

It's the power brick that's making the noise does this mean it's on its last legs?

Typical coil whine. I have two panels one NEC and another Acer one that both make sounds in standby. Its annoying but its been like that since 2006.

Just try and get a new power adapter, that one is probably on its way out. I'd suggest ebay.
