Monitor input delay

Looking for a gaming monitor. I've been using a 42 inch lcd tv via hdmi and I feel like it's probably affecting my performance in games. I'm finding that nobody is advertising input delay and only response time. Wondering how to find out more about that and any recommendations. What factors affect input delay, display only, cabling (hdmi vs dvi etc), video card?

TV's have some internal post processing of the image which adds delay, although this is something that can usually be found in settings and disabled. Monitors all have low input lag. IPS are not as good as TN at latency times, although IPS panels offer better color. Frankly most people can't fell the difference between IPS and TN in terms of input time. Having multiple inputs, hdmi, dvi, vga, displayport, etc, adds a tiny bit of input lag. This is because when you have more then one input there has to be a small processing unit inside the display to process the input and this unit adds a microsecond of delay. Really what mattes most is refresh rate and response time. When the refresh rate is too low, like 30hz range, the mouse input can be seen as slow and sluggish. When the refresh rate is higher there inherently a lower amount of time the screen goes before it it updated. So in theory a 144hz screen might beat a 60hz panel by a frame and a quarter roughly. This is something that can't really be felt by most although the hardest core of counter strike players like myself will swear by it for all time. After playing with a 144hz screen you do notice the difference when using a 60hz screen. Although before making the transition to 144hz I couldn't feel it one bit. Pixel response time is a important but not vital factor. A 144hz screen with a 10ms pixel response time could be seen as having ghosting, which is where a shadow of the previous image can be seen after the screen updates. If you want the best of the best low input times and refresh rate you'd want one of the 144hz 1ms response time panels. I personally use the BenQ XL2411Z which is the base line 144hz screen from BenQ. I highly recommend it if you don't want to drop more then $300. Although if you do, then I'd either go for the 144hz Acer Tn 1440p panel for around $500. Its got freesync so that you can have dynamically changing refresh rate if your below 144hz.

Thanks for the info. I was already checking the acer one out earlier. And this is for counter strike as well :P
