Monitor / Gfx card I/O complications, Halp

So, I've watched Logan's video's about the 2560 x 1440 res monitors and also been looking to get one for a while now. Specifically the Asus PB27Q but I'm not sure how to get it all working: I've got two GTX 670's in SLi that can run a max of 2560 x 1600 res and have:

1x Dual-link DVI-D

1x Dual-link DVI-I

1x Displayport

1x HDMI port

The PB27Q has VGA, HDMI, Dual link DVI-D and Displayport, so which thingies would I need to plug into the other thingies to acheive 2560 x 1440 res?

It's an expesive ass monitor so if there is another monitor out there that can do 2560 x 1440 res for cheaper or better at around the same price, then I'd greatly appreciate you telling me :D.

Also, would it be possible to run one 2560 x1440p monitor and two 1920 x 1080p monitors for surround vision on two 2Gb GTX 670's in SLi? Two 1080p monitors on HDMI from both of the cards, or maybe using one DVI-something and HDMI port from one card and giving the 2560 x 1440p monitor it's own card entirely????? Purely speculation.

Bad explaination:

2x 1080p monitors, GTX 670 No.2 for them both. One using HDMI and the other using DVI-I or DVI-D, 1080p monitors I'd be using do not have displayport.

1x 2560 x 1440p, GTX 670 No.1 for it. Using something (This is the part I don't get, what I/O thing has enough (Bandwidth?) to support 2560 x 1440p.

Thanks, Mat.

You want to plug the GTX 670's display port connecter into the monitor. This will give you the most bandwidth.

I'm not very sure about your surround with multiple monitors as I'm not familiar with nvidias drivers and such (been on ATI for the last couple generations).

I actually have the ASUS PB27Q. It's awesome.  You will want to use either DisplayPort OR dual liink DVI. The monitor will come with a Dual Link DVI cable for you to use and a 3.5mm audio pass through if you have to use the monitor speakers (not recommended.. they are pretty bad). It also comes with a displayport cable (NOT minidisplay port). I don't know if the GTX 670 have the full sized displayport connectors, but you can pick up a minidisplayport to Full sized display port for like 6 bucks shipped on amazon. (I am currently using a minidisplayport from my HD7970 to the Displayport on the monitor, and it works fine)

It looks like the 670 DOES have a full sized display port, so you should just be able to go straight from that to the one on the monitor. It even includes the cable. Use HDMI or DVI or whatever for the 1080p monitors

Here is a link to another monitor option. Monoprice is selling 27" 1440p IPS monitors for ~400. They have a 5 pixel guarantee and 1 year warranty. I recommend doing some research and seeing what the pros/cons would be, after all... you would save $300 bucks. 5 pixels seems like a lot, but these monitors have tons of them so I'm not sure how noticeable it would be.  I can't tell you if they are good or not, but the ASUS is IMO worth the $700, it's awesome.

Longwinded post, my bad. Kind of had a stream-of-consciousness thing going on here.

Hey Lincoln,

Thanks for answering and a nice rig you've got there. Sadly I'm in the UK and we don't exactly get the best offerings of monitors over here :( but thanks for the suggestion on the Monoprice monitor. The PB27Q is Near £500 for me and it's the cheapest 2560 x 1440 monitor I could find so I just needed to be sure my system could handle it and that I had the ports.

Kind of a premo rig I've got, Phantom 410 White case, mouse and monitor are glossy black then the rest is matte black. Looks amazing :D. Specs are on my profile.

I think I'll be doing display port for the Asus PB27Q and using the HDMI and DVI of card for the 1080p monitors unless I get better performance using one HDMI each of the cards.
