Edit: Deciding between Benq 120hz 24" vs Asus 144hz 24"

help BenQ has better color, but lower refresh rate at 120hz vs asus 144hz.

Is the refresh rate of these two monitors that big of a difference?

If your preference is smooth gameplay, go with the 144Hz 1080p monitor. That ASUS VG24 is a good panel.

Personally, I prefer IPS panels, which are usually locked to 60Hz. Sometimes you can overclock them. Most US 1440p panels are out your price range. I think the Nixeus costs $450. You might consider the Korean panels on Ebay.

I have been dying to jointhe 1440p/1600p monitor club..was not the answer i was hoping for :(

im going to go xfire 280x next summer..should i invest in the higher res display? or just stick with the 144hz 1080p

also besides my preference..which would you choose if you were in my position

A single 280x will run both displays perfectly well. Two of them would be even better for each given display.

1440p monitors are good, games still look fluid enough. If you value fluidity a little more than colours and viewing angles, go with a 144Hz panel.

For a decent quality, US supplied 1440p monitor, you would probably have to save an additional $100.

The Korean 1440p panels can be bought for <$350, I believe. I'll post the link to the 1440p club, if you want to check some of the ebay vendors.

It is an unfortunate trade off that IPS 1440p panels come with a lower refresh, and a higher response time. You can overclock some of the given Korean panels. It is a hit or miss result.

The 144Hz ASUS panel is a good option.

Thanks. Ive come to a conclusion..the 144hz is the better option for me.

i will explain.

With my current monitor at 60hz i experience screen tering at high fps, over 100fps and screen still tears. I saw a youtube vid comparing 60 to 144 hz at 240fps record and the difference is noticable. Games are only going to get more demanding from here on and the higher res will look better but would not be beneficial as it will offer choppy gamplay. For instance crysis 3 aready torture high end gpu..imagine what star citizen and the witcher 3 is going to do. im not ready for high res..pockets not deep enough to supply gpu power. I think i might do eyefinity with 3 144hz monitors in the future or not..we will see.

i wanted to get the 1440p for realestate but it wont matter since i would have 2 1080p monitors to compensate (me english is a little bad)

high res 1440p/1600p is nice..but the technology is not as advanced as 1080p. in a few years when 4k becomes affordable maybe we might see everything come together as graphics power would meture and monitor tech will advance.

thanks for your imput

i will be getting the asus monitor..or someone will get me it for christmas ^^ ether way i think ill be very happy when i get my hands on it

Your last point was the best. You will be happy with whatever you get.

Personally, I think 60Hz is fluid enough. It is all down to preference. 144Hz will look noticeably more fluid. But it won't be as noticeable as that video portrays. Don't forget that it is in slow-motion.

I have heard of people overclocking their 60Hz panels to near 120Hz. The results are mixed.

144Hz would be the FPS gamers choice.

mehm mehm...im kind of a try hard in BLR and tweak graphics settings to get that near perfect fps draw. and in battlefield 3 too much fps causes confusion and screen splitting occurs. the higher hz will ensure faster fps draw, which is nessessary for high fps from gpu (g-sync without fps limitation xD)

I do understand it wont be perfect..screen tearing will occure in fps drops, but its one step closer to a smoother experience. I saw tearing on the 144hz monitor..but it was minor.

hay and maybe ill be able to oc the 144 hz monitor..i get around 200fps on some games while on Ultra. With two 280x ill be breaking that barrier..the more the better. going to be smooth like butter

haha "try hard" ;D

yep..sometimes i get thrown into You tubers  match cus of my stats ingame. Played with ZeroArmada a couple times..tonight too. and some guy called LevalCap...battlefield commentator or something

120Hz also helps with stuttering.

was wondering.. 120hz VS 144hz???

this monitor has its advantage in the higher refresh rate(144hz one) but fails in color. which is expected as it comes close to CRT quality, it also has back light bleeding as noted in newegg reviews.

is 120hz a big difference from 144hz. cus their might be 120hz monitors that exceed where the 144Hz fall short.

I was comparing 120Hz to 60Hz, sorry.

The extra 24Hz... I'd personally say it isn't worth it. Kinda like the quality over quantity. But the quantity is almost the same.

Then again, I just looked at the prices. The cheaper on (144Hz) does look promising, you can always adjust the color to suite what you think looks best.

After hours of research i found out going from 120hz to 144hz is not as big of a difference than from 60hz to 120hz. BUT! since im moving up from 60hz, any monitor displaying 120hz and higher is more than acceptable. So i opted for the 144hz.

BenQ XL2420TE 144Hz tht is

Its out performs the Asus 144hz counterpart in every aspect! The color reproduction is a few steps ahead which is important for a display like this, since that is not their strong point. So having the Benq 144hz do a decent job with color makes that much more sense to get it over the asus model.

Right now you can get the BenQ xl2420te 144hz for 300 with promo code + 10% off w/ promo code

Depends on your needs:

If you're a person who wants to have a really good looking game and cares a bit less about the amount of frames unless it isn't playable: go with a higher res. monitor.

On the other hand, if you are hyped up about your monitor having a fast refresh rate: do as you please.

The catch is that you can properly over-clock the Korean monitor's refresh rate to summit like 120Hz

On the other hand:.....There is no other hand......;__;

I don't know about that. Right now my GPU is so powerful my monitor (60hz) cant handle the amount of FPS it gets thrown at (even all modern games on ULTRA)..everyone who reviews a 120hz-144hz monitor says they would never go back to 60hz.

A few sources already distinguish people like you. nothing against you. but they say people who has never experienced anything past 60hz would say stay with it unless you need to. But i find that bullshit since most of the newegg and amazon reviewers say they would never go back to 60hz regardless of color reproduction.

i believe i wont be going back to 60hz because it would make no sense going from smooth play to choppy play.

ill be receiving my monitor in a few days and would clarify if its that much of a big deal..im pretty sure its not a preference thing too because 60hz is far from perfect from my experience.

Gamer/Hardcore Gamer- 120hz-144hz

Casual gamer-60hz

My impression after 2 weeks!

it make a big difference moving from 60hz.

pros.

-70% smoother gameplay

-no lag

- no screen splitting

-no eye strain

-fluid visuals

cons.

-color is slightly washed out

overall, i would not go back to 60hz as i am now truly satisfied with my pcgaming experience. i mean its so much better man...i cant stress it...I LOVE MY 144hz MONITOR......to death

when technology advance and 144hz becoms the standard and collor correction becoms better, i will then concider other resolution options..but! as of now. you cannot ask for anything better that 144hz

REMOVE THAT FUCKING SHARE BUTTON FROM THE MOBILE VERSON...IT BLOCKS MY WHE SCREEN WHEN TYPING MAN...LIKE WOW. THOUGHT U GUYS WEWRE SMARTER...cant eveb tell what im typing right now....
