Monitor connected but no display

OK, I've tried to google this, I can't find any help.

I just got home a computer I ordered, haven't asked them to install Windows as I could get that for free from my mothers workplace, as they're upgrading to windows 8, they had a lot of windows 7 left.

The computer turns on fine, no problems, but I sort of a need a screen to install Windows, especially concidering that I have never done it before.

I have connected my plug-and-play monitor from Samsung (SyncMaster 205BW), however I get no display. The monitor works fine on my laptop and on other desktops. Although I have never tried to use it on a computer that haven't already got windows installed before.

The screen is connected with a VGA cable to the integrated VGA video port. I do realize that I should get hdmi or dvi. My GPU is an ASUS GeForce GTX 670 and doesn't have a VGA port.

I did spot a loose screw in the case when I got it, I have removed it now.

What should I do?

The cheapest way would be to use a vga to dvi dongle, or another cord. A possible issue could be the fact that the integrated video card could be disabled in your bios. If you have any other spare screens or if you can jerry rig your new desktop to a tv/laptop display, or just ask a friend to bring a dvi/hdmi cable you could check that out. To check whether or not integrated is disabled once you have a display, usually the startup screen has the key to press to enter the bios (default key: delete). The option to enable integrated should be under the "integrated peripherals" option.

I would start by removing the video card all together in till you get windows installed. THEN try the integrated vga. If that doesn't work trouble shoot around in the BIOS and make sure about the select input on the monitor.

Yes, the integrated VGA output was disabled. I couldn't put it in my GPU because it didn't have a VGA output. I took the chance and bought a DVI-HDMI cable... or well, got someone else to do it as I was at work... Nonetheless!!! It works perfectely now, at least i suspect so - ;)

I did for a short while think it wouldn't work, because my screen said it wasn't connected, turned out I just had to press a button on the screen itself to make it update the input.

Thanks, altough for the replies, although I haven't read them before now :) Would've helped me!

PS. Would a DVI-DVI cable do any difference when my screen only allows 1680x1050p?
