Monitor and Graphics Card Issue

My GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB WINDFORCE 3X Video Card

I recently bought the Asus VG248QE 144Hz 24.0" Monitor, and when I try to set the refresh rate to 144 hertz, I have encountered an issue. The option isn't there. In fact, there is only one option, 64 hertz. My first thought was that I needed to install the driver to solve the issue. The driver immediately siad "The graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware". I am pretty sure that my GPU is compatable with this monitor, but you never know. Anyway, I would like to know 2 things

a) are these two pieces of hardware compatible

b) If anybody else has had this problem, and fixed it.

What connector are you using to connect the two?

HDMI, DisplayPort or DVI?

Also for your driver just use Geforce Experience to handle your drivers.

Sorry, I should have mentioned that. I have it hooked up with DisplayPort
