Mom's dell not booting

my mom's dell computer its really old like 2003 or so and its pentium 4
im not sure what series it is but the problem is it doesn't boot it lights up in the front orange instead of green and the abcd lights on the back only lights up orange only on d.

i tired looking for light codes but only on i found said it was a bios issue and i took out the bios battery and put it back in.
There is no video at all that comes up and i tried putting my mom's hd in my computer to see if it okay and tries to boot into windows xp and then bsod's but all the files are there if i boot into win7

I'm thinking it's a dead CMOS battery. Try putting a new one in or one from a working computer, and if it boots, then all you need to do is buy that battery from your local electronics store.

Shit, that's a good idea, cannot believe I didn't think of that.

o wow yea forgot those things can die i'll try using the battery from my other computer to test

well i just swapped batteries and it didnt work so i don't know i mean all the one fan spins and the mobo light stays on even when the computer turned off and unplugged i'm not sure if supposed to do that but it seems to do everything else normally

I also found out its a Dimension Series 2400 guess im an idiot cus its written on the front of the case

well i found from dell's wonderful customer service (love when they take 4 mins just to say "okay") that its a motherboard or powersupply issue and i plugged my psu to it and it still did the same thing so im guessing the mobo went bad

if anyone thinks this isnt right plz post

i think he is probably right or close. my brothers old dell had similar issues, i didnt call tech support but the problem wasnt with the memory hard drive os or cmos battery. at that point i just stoped though as anything beyound that with laptops i just dont think is worthwhile. unless its a relitivly new and exspensive laptop.

I had that issue with my Emachine, I bought a new CPU, and motherboard. It fixed the issue.
