I have an old Cooler Master RS-460-PCAR-A3 power that I scavenged from an old computer and I've found it only has 1 PCI-E 6 pin cable. I'm wondering whether running a molex to PCI-E cable to power a 7950 is going to harm or hinder the performance of the GPU?
Should I get a new PSU or or just run with the Molex to PCI-E cable?
No, Molex to 6-pin will work fine.
Cheers mate.
i doubt that psu has the power to run a HD7950 with its 70% efficiency and dual rails @ 18amps for a combined output of 312w's
If it even powers the card it whont last long
Thanks for the advice, I'll probably hold off powering it on for a while because i might damage the components while under load, i'll probably go with a corsair cx600 so I can have some headroom to overclock and upgrade in the future.
