Does that seem wrong to you too? Called Time Warner and they said it was perfectly normal and my modem needs replacing. I had this happen before 3 months ago and I replaced my last modem... it must not be the modem.
Would removing the splitter underneath the house help? I only use internet and there is a 3 way splitter.
Thanks, I'll try shortening the massive amount of cable they left curled up underneath the house this afternoon. I removed the cheapo splitter they installed and there is a massive improvement.
first read this to help you understand your signal levels link
Your Downstream signal levels are too low, and your upstream power level is too high. Note there is no way to determine your upstream SNR without contacting your ISP. This is physically impossible, so don't be upset. Now, this is to say these are your levels, TWC may just have looked at stuff on their end and all could be well numbers wise to them, so don't tin foil hat just yet.
Due to your levels not being up to spec, this would cause you to have network issues. Try shortening cable runs so you don't have excess slack. Try to leave about a 1ft of slack, in case the cable ever needs to be re-terminated, for each end of the cable.
What are the total length in feet of the runs to your house? Make sure that you are minimum using RG6 coax, if its anything besides RG6 or RG11, replace it immediately. if you're using RG6, and have a run greater than 330ft without the use of an amp then you gonna get pretty bad signal. Since you are connected to a 3 way splitter, are the un-used ends properly terminated so that they don't leak signal?
The modem needs to be -10 to +10 and transmit needs to be below 54. 54 is the max allowed
I work for an outside company for comcast and cablevision im mosly cablevision though as i prefer it over comcast so if u need any questions answered i can help
Also stay away from radio shack and and those dollar store and plasic backed splitters they suck
Snr is low should be 31-32 min at least thats what im used to. he is at 27 originaly if he gets it above -10 it should fix it self as long as the fittings are tight. Though ive had to replace modems only because the modem itself had a bad snr and nothing i did would fix it
I finally complained enough that they replaced the shitty drop from the pole with new rg11. They cut the old cable and water literally dripped out of the casing...
Even after that I still have a 2-way motorolla amplifier inline for all my long stupid runs.
Replacing the splitter with a female to female rg6 adapter seemed to fix it for now. I'll climb under the house when it's not raining to clean up the excess. Thanks guys.
