I’ve tried both physical HDMI ports on the back of the NAB6 mini PC, as well as numerous different physical ports on the back of the monitor (HDMI1/MHL, HDMI2, HDMI3 – but no DP on the PC, otherwise i’d already be using that), as well as numerous (4) different HDMI cables, trying to isolate the underlying issue.
All basically same/similar behaviors. I’ve even been trying this DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) utility to ensure i hadn’t missed anything between versions, or any nagging intel software that i might have overlooked. Safe mode boots directly into my monitors’ native resolution of 2560 x 1440, but the ability to run at ~2K is eliminated with each and every version of the intel UHD driver i have tried. I’m stumped. Appreciate you not giving up on me, adjusting display resolution should be trivial, i’m embarrassed that i have to come here groveling for assistance and wasting everyone’s precious time.
Super useful, thank you kindly @wendell sir. Kangfirmed, same Intel UHD driver version, which was provided out of the box… yet somehow i’m still missing the ability to choose anything above 1920 x 1080.
Aye (to OSD), but nothing that appears relevant. I’ve tried both 1440p displays that i have on hand, which works fine from Win10 Pro (on my primary daily driver desktop PC) as well as booting into Linux live environment from the NAB6.
I went through all the menus just to be absolutely certain, no dice. Thank you yet again for volunteering so much of your time to such a ridiculous issue i’m still having. You have no idea how much I appreciate all you do for this community and especially on a Sunday, no less. You’re an absolute rock star.
I’ll continue tinkering and report back if/when I’m able to solve it now that you’ve given me numerous clues. I complicated things trying to use official Intel drivers, rather than sticking with minisforum modified version.
Sorry to leave you hanging, was tired and frustrated. All of the “System Setup” menu options are basically binary choice – ON/OFF settings, for the most part, nothing too detailed.
Please let me know if you think i have missed anything. Appreciate how thorough you have been. Back to the grind today, alas on the old Windows 10 desktop, running the exact same dual displays, at 1440p – albeit currently using Display Port (x2) to my aging 1080 Ti.
So with the kvms ecomode being on plays havoc sometimes. Can you disable that?
Also you have tried HDMI on the GTX 1080 with these displays right? Some early 1440p displays didn’t support 1440p on HDMI, only dp. It’s possible to use an active USB powered HDMI to dp adapter to save the USB ports if you want too
Correct, i have used HDMI with one of these displays, via single DP + one HDMI with the built in Intel UHD from my i7-7700K desktop for quite some time prior to finding a “reasonably” priced 1080 Ti (~December 2k17) – i probably went ~6 months, or so before i was able to add a discrete GPU… during the height of the crypto scaling / blockchain wars.
Basically all modes that you see in the OSD menu options above are set to OFF; Splendid Demo Mode, GamePlus, ECO Mode = all off. First quick break i get, i’ll further validate the HDMI display output at 1440p. No issues that i’m aware of. I tend to be hyper anal about the screen real-estate, if you hadn’t already noticed. I’m beyond sorry this has stretched into multiple days of your time, sir. Cannot say this enough, genuinely appreciate the vast amount of time you’ve personally invested.
I did notice that overnight, Windows Update on the NAB6 was trying to automatically install v4338 of the intel GPU drivers. Almost certainly a result of my prior tinkering, which i rolled back, to no avail. Steps i followed:
reboot in Safe Mode
run DDU utility to fully remove and “clean” any prior drivers, which i may have missed during manual removal process
reboot
install gfx_win_101.4146.exe direct from minisforum site from the “official” Mediafire download link.
failwhale, still stuck at 1920 x 1080 @60Hz over HDMI – Intel Graphics Command Center would show 2560 x 1440 as a supported mode, but Win11 still does not list this.
I sent a question to minisforum via Amazon’s “get product support” situation, unsure if anyone monitors that, but they’ve posted some replies to comments (i think). I’ve been trying to avoid the dongle life, the only one i have on hand lacks video output, was primarily purchased for USB-C to wired ethernet for my laptop.
Would you recommend trying something of this nature, as proof of concept? USB-C to DP.
I even tried adding the old Windows 10 WHQL Driver for both displays. I guess my next step is to plug it directly into a 4K TV to see if i’m able to run 4K@60Hz over the same HDMI cable. Unfortunately, probably won’t be able to make time until late this evening. I’m a slave to the grind.
Which unfortunately leaves me back at square one. Something about the ASUS displays are janky and will support 7th generation (i7-7700K) Intel UHD graphics at 2560 x 1440 (@60Hz), but not the 12th gen? I’m kind of at a loss here, thank you for all the help and especially for taking time out of your Sunday to plug in your NAB6 as a sanity check.
It’s just a simple drop down menu (to change display resolution), i cannot for the life of me understand how it works most places (yours, TV, Linux Mint, remote desktop via M$ Basic Display Driver), but not the one i’m demanding for my specific use-case, with my pair of ASUS monitors. I’m out of ideas for troubleshooting.
Not really prepared to invest in a new monitor (yet), i’m quite accustomed to my workflows. Dual ~2K IPS panels has worked well for me.
Mister Wendell, i could kiss you, sir. THANK YOU, thank you, sincerely from the bottom of my heart, thank you. CRU took a few tries and a bit of tinkering, but worked out and I now seem to be up and running at native 2560 x 1440 resolution, albeit at 59.950 Hz. I obviously have absolutely no clue here, but could the refresh rate be a potential reason why this machine seems to have difficulty? I could have swore i even tried at 50Hz (and lower), to no avail… it’s been a long few days. Will continue basic testing, i cannot thank you enough for the assistance.
Wasn’t really planning on purchasing anything for Prime Day, but I will absolutely be using your Amazon link for any and all purchases moving forward. Thank you for blessing me with a tiny bit of the immense knowledge you possess, sir. Now i can begin the actual testing and see about making a full-time transition to Windows 11. Unfortunately married to M$ for work purposes.
Thank you once again for all the help. My ~6 year old noise cancelling headphones are finally giving up their ghost, so managed to use your referral link for a Prime Day sale, guess i’m gonna end up with some Sony cans.
Is there any way to apply this to ALL purchases on my account? For example, my wife was shopping earlier today for our son’s 10th birthday, made a few small purchases, but i didn’t catch her in time. It wasn’t that much, but i want to make sure we continue supporting your efforts. It may be some time before i’m able to start paying back all the time you invested into my little dilemma.
