MiniPC recommendation?

Dear friends,

I coded something in python(pyramid) - runs great in AWS container, absolutely love the speed, etc. I am ready to go into production with it, but I live in a country where each business must have a locally in-country-hosted server for their website, derp. Cloud services are not allowed for the main website. I know dumb, but it is what it is.

So, I think my best bet is to put the container into a mini-pc. I was thinking Zotac C-series. Intel Atom sounds good, passive cooling even better, costs about ~$200 - manageable.

Question: Is there anything like Zotac C Zbox for this purpose that I should look at before ordering like 100 of those? It'd be cool if I could run a minecraft server on it no prob - I'd like to keep a few for personal uses like that as well. What do you suggest?

Take your 200 bucks and leave the country.

You can not get a good server for 200 bucks. At least not something that is good enough to handle a small business.

I may be wrong here, but ordering 100 of the mini PCs? Why not buy one big server, or even a few big servers ($200 x 100 = $20,000). Unless your goal is buying PCs for an office in which case tiny $200 mini PCs aren't good enough. Also running a Minecraft server on one with not have good performance.

Maybe i'm interpreting your post wrong, but look at benchmarks before you make any decision.

What country? Not sure how well you're going to get something for that job at $200

Kazakhstan ;-) an AWS micro container is puny in terms of system resources - a minipc would double that at least and is upgradeable, plus pyramid is just insanely fast. We have hosting companies - they will provide a server no problem, but I have very little confidence in those companies's integrity, as in not touching client's data. I do plan to run one big server either way for testing etc., but if I go into production with it i expect to quickly run into scalability problems of several kinds - static ip + bandwidth cost here is through the roof. Most of those businesses do not have any web presence and no network services of any kind. I think very few of them would break 1.6ghz or 2-4gig ram. I may be wrong - have you built something for tiny business before?

You could always buy some used server hardware on e-bay. I do not know if you can import it tho, I know that some countries do not allow imports on electronics.

Here is a dual CPU 5420 with 16GB of RAM but no HDD and only for $100. Also you do not only get the PSU but also the backup PSU as well.

It is not really that mini tho, but if you take out the backup PSU you can maybe make yourself a smaller case.

thank you! that's helpful - although might be tough to ship, but $100 is definitely a bargain!
