I use Sunshine/Moonight all over the place on my home LAN.
I am now however looking to stream over wan and was hoping to be able to use a mini PC - perhaps an N100 or similar. But I’m so sure they have the horsepower to encode 1080p60 at a decent bitrate. The use case isn’t for gaming so the igpu won’t be having to do 2 things (remote astrophotography which isn’t very system intensive).
Has anyone got any recommendations on what is needed to run Sunshine in such a way? Will i need to consider and amd apu instead?
I use it on many machines. My i7-3770 isn’t too much stronger than an N100 does it fine with software encoding.
If you’re not gaming, I’d think this CPU is just fine. It has hardware encoding, fast enough to transcode jellyfin anyway as it is widely used in that community. And the horsepower for software encoding if needed.
The UHD 24EUs the N100 is equipped with is more than capable to decode a 1080p 60fps video stream. I’d say even overkill for the task a Raspberry Pi can do. But a machine with an N100 will do it much better so I’d say go for it.
A friend is using a mini PC based on an N100 do astro photography with a motorized mount and Sony IMX sensor and it does just fine so you’ll be good on that front.
