Hi level1techs,
My duckyshine3 keyboard just died after 3 years of service. Leaving me with no choice but to replace it. Problem is i have no idea what are the good keyboards now or what tech is in them since i bought mine in 2014.
What keyboards do you guys use?
i'm thinking of getting a cheap one this time without leds
I have a 60% "magicforce" brand keyboard accuired from Amazon, seems good quality although I do not type much so not the best judge.
I think they come in the various flavours of Cherry MX clone switches.
they are cheap and minimalist "60 % size" 29 UK pounds on UK Amazon at the moment.
I feel like the only change really was RGB backlight :D
My current fav board is a home made 60% with Alps clicky/tactile switches.
KUL, Filco and Leopold all make great boards w/o the blinky lights. If you need a keypad, Leopold has a new model, which is a compact version of the classic Cherry G80-1800. Being a fan of these old Cherry boards, I'm anxious to pick one of these up, for myself.
How minimalist do you want?
I'm using a Tesoro Tizona board. It's a perfectly acceptable tenkeyless keyboard, aside from the one key that is overly sensitive and repeats when you press it. There's also this Magicforce Mini keyboard that I keep considering, but I don't know if I can do without dedicated function keys.
Do you want Planck level of minimalist?
Or maybe a TKL like a WASD V2?
Or do you still like numpads like the Das Keyboard Model S?
Wow there is so many to choose from lol. I'm considering getting a numpad keyboard but i dunno.
Update: keyboard is working again after a thourough hose down and leaving it out to dry. Kinda lucky because i don't think i could afford it lol
I despise small keyboards. I use a good majority of the buttons. A numpad is a must for me.
Don't throw your old keyboard away. You can still use the old switches and case for other projects.
IBM Model M Master Race!
Thats good. also IsoPropyl is great for un gumming board after a spill, not much in the way of electronics in a board to kill so a bath and then good clean usually saves them. Just be careful cleaning the caps if they are the laser etched ones, you could end up stripping the coating off them.
Almost all problems are DIY fixable on a mech so include the problem in posts.
Anyway still looking for another board? lots of good stuff above, what do you want out of a board, layout, features, price range.
You're right about the keycaps getting stripped mine feel sticky now i washed and dried it using a heat gun.
The upside is now you can get some way more awesomeer besstest caps ever.
The upupside is i can not and save myself some shekels for ryzen 2
more compact than minimalist, but quite good for the price
