AMD hasn't really been doing all so well, The R9 Fury X was overhyped, and it didn't deliver as much as we hoped. We have the R9 Nano coming which will be an underclocked, and much more efficient R9 Fury X. Now AMD has quietly released the R9-370X. Yes it's the exact same GPU as the R9-270x. EXCEPT it will come in 2GIB and 4GIB Flavors (Which isn't really new, We've had 4GIB cards.) but it's here... just not anywhere except China..
For those who don't know, The R9-370x is going to be a refresh, of the R9-270x which was a Rebrand of the old 7870. This 370X will be SUPERCLOCKED. Specs are as follows..
STREAM PROCESSORS : 1280
TEXTURE UNITS : 80
ROPS : 32
CORE CLOCK : I'm going to take a wild guess it's going to be 1120mhz (Like the old 270x)
BOOST CLOCK : 1200mhz (At least this is what the 370x Vapour-X boost clocks are.. which is pretty extreme)
MEMORY CLOCK : 5600mhz
MEMORY BUS : 256-Bit
VRAM - 2GiB / 4GIB
ARCHITECTURE : GCN 1.0
GPU : PITCAIRN
PRICE: My Gut tells me around $179 (only cause the price can't get too close to the 380.
What do you guys think? Personally i don't understand why the bloody R7-370 was on the line-up to begin with. that card could of ended up being the R7-360X.. NOT the R7-370..
Yeah thats a pretty nice jump in clocks. Still im dissapointed. i would have liked it more, if they would have used a gimped version of the Tonga chip for the 370X.
If you remember the 7870XT, this card was kinda a limmited edition card, which had a gimped down Tahiti chip onboard that time. To bad they AMD didnt do a stunt like this to trump the GTX950, but its understandable. But the only thing that botters me, is that the pitcairn chips are basicly that old, and they lack on certain new feutures like True Audio and what not.
the thing with the 7870XT was that it should of replaced the 7870.. similar to how the 285 replaced the 280 all across the board. but honestly the only reason i don't think AMD used the 7870XT is probably cause it'll get closed to the R9-380 / R9-285 from a performance standpoint. it was pretty damn close to the 7950 if my memory serves me right.
7870XT was indeed realy close to the 7950 that time. And i think that you are right from a marketing standpoint. a Gimped down tonga, would still have made it perform pretty close to the 380. And thats most likely a bit hard to sell.
This card is supposed to be as an aswer to Nvidia´s GTX950. In which i think this card would be just right for that.
Still it would have been nice a gimped down Tonga for a 370X.
yeah but the difference between the GPUs really is of course performance. AND the lack of features with the 370x. it doesn't support free-sync, it doesn't support true audio and i doubt it will support DX12 and Vulkan.
yeah but still no true audio, not a big deal maybe for allot of users, but its still one mark less on the box, if you know what i mean. Its a bit dissapointing in my opinnion that they re-used that old pitcarn chip. But from a marketing perspective i do understand it.
