Mirroring two drives is only the default setting. You can switch back to Stripe.

I understand the concept of using 2 different manufacturer drives, but won’t that cause some possible issues in the RAID? Even between maker’s, a 2TB drive is not always the same 2TB, due to the way some maker’s count bytes/bits, more precisely whether they count 1MB = 1024Kb or 1MB=1000Kb.

Honestly I’m not 100% sure, but I never had any problems using HGST, Seagate and WD at the same time. I just assumed if there is any size difference it would just be the size of the smallest one. I even replaced a few so far with different models, always resilvered with no issues.

Hmm … maybe the software and controllers have gotten better
