Just ran across this article, seems that Microsoft is selling BS versions of games for pc that have most of the pc features removed. Looks I will never be buying a game there. I wonder if everyone competing for thier own exclusive gaming platforms is going to make pc gaming as we know it a thing of the past. I already have steam, origin, and ubisoft. Do all of you think this has gone too far, or is it just to be expected these days?
Not surprised, MS still doesn't understand PC gaming. They don't want the console version looks too bad. Mods increase replay value, can't have that. EA has done the same shit with mods as well. They don't want to it compete with paid DLC.
I hear you. If it wasn't for mods, there are quite a few games that would have already died out. This stuff in the article really got me though;
No SLI/Crossfire support
No mod support
SweetFX, ENB, Nexus mods are all gone
Windows Store games are exclusive to Windows 10
Game files are protected No fps/hardware monitor software works with it
No refund policy explained
VSync is always-on
Always borderless fullscreen
Can't launch it via the exe (So adding it as a non steam game will not work)
You need to take control of the folder as admin if you want access to the files
Mouse software which lets you create custom binds for each game doesn't work
Since no fps/hardware monitor software works, this means overlays meaning no Steam Controller since you can't use Big Picture Mode
This may have been why Valve has moved away from MS.
Gabe did say he didn't like what MS showed him.
You would think they would have learned their lesson from GFWL. Platform parity is stupid.
Jesus fuckin' Christ look at that list. That's horrible. This is worse than GFWL by several miles.
wtf? lol....
Who's idea was this?
well gabe ain't better...
we can only hope no1 will buy that shit.
My thoughts exactly, I thought GFWL was the pinnacle of awful.
I've always wanted Microsoft to make the PC gaming experience easier to use so that even the "average Joe" would choose the PC over the Xbox, but this is just complete crap. I won't support this movement, at all.
It's almost like they don't want people to choose PC over Xbone
Gabe/Valve are doing OK IMO, they allow mods on steam, and support them, they have an OVER forgiving refund policy, they support most platforms and are trying their best to breach into Linux OS (its a struggle when hardware vendors are slow with driver support).
I think 2016 is when we see that 1% Linux gamers turn into 2%, yes sure its not much but its a start. It has been just under 1% forever now and that is mostly because of how TERRIBLE driver support is, thought NVIDIA is doing pretty good, AMD is crawling along slowly trying to figure out this concept of good programming...
That's exactly what it is.
