Microsoft security essentials

has anybody used it? and is it good enough for use as just a backup, so that i have it there just in case?

i dont need extraneous web protection, just in case of an accident.

Microsoft security essentials is free, doesn't bog down your system too much, and it's just as ineffective and useless as any other windows antimalware program, so why not use it if it makes you feel better.

You know what the joke this week was with MS-SE? I ran a test scan and left a Xubuntu LIVE USB in the Windows system because I had repaired the Windows system with it (because of the great modern filesystem that Microsoft uses that never destroys itself for the stupidest reasons), and ... MS-SE marked Ubuntu as malware, LMAO...

Seriously though, MS-SE is enough as a real-time scanner, but don't trust it. If you want to make sure you don't have malware on your system, run a scan every week with a linux live distro on a USB stick or an external drive, using clamav configured with the Google databases and heuristics enabled. It's the only thing that is remotely effective, and it goes much much much faster than scanning your computer in Windows. Don't scan from within Windows, it's a laugh really, it's way too easy to circumvent any Windows antimalware software.

thanks, thats really all that i need it for
