The hope is that they don’t change, but doubtful. Its easy enough to move repos so no big deal changing hosting services IMO.
half kek
Interesting.
I’m not sure how Gitlab host themselves. I think they use docker? Maybe kubernets?
If they go through Azure PaaS it’s more than likely Docker.
Their “DevOps” platform is actually pretty cool. Doing some testing with C# right now, and I’ve got a NodeJS application on there.
Yes, but how many kuber nets do they use?
Found this:
The whole package, that’s really nice. Pair that with Microsoft’s Total Absolute Action Pack or whatever they’re calling it, and you with 4 other devs could have the ultimate start up for like $1,200 a year lol.
Visual Studio Professional, hosting, CI/CD, PaaS, IaaS, testing, orchestration. Damn, being an indie dev with a little cash just became a fucking wet dream.
And then they can use this:
Lmfao
Who knows how accurate it is but according to wikipedia over 250,000 projects have moved from github to gitlab.
To be fair, Gitlab offers the best CI out of the box, whereas Github needs to have plugins for that functionality. Some free but others are not.
If you have a project where you need the functionality but don’t want, or cannot afford, the added overhead for all the various plug-ins then Gitlab is the superior choice.
In January 2017, a database administrator accidentally deleted the production database, in the aftermath of a cyber attack. Six hours worth of issue and merge request data was lost.
Oops.
Hey @anon79053375 are you #movingtogitlab ?
The mass exodus.
Btw, Gitlab is doing a 75% discount for new members who get the plans.
Damn, that’s a lot of migrations. Im already on a private gitlab server, so it’s not really any different for me.
From a mod in the comments:
Q:
How come existing GitLab users don’t get any of the “new deals”?
Care to cater to your existing base as well?
A:
If you’re already using Ultimate or Gold and tweeted please email [email protected] and we’ll try to make it work.
Might be an easy way to convince upper management to pay if they’re not already.
What’s this “new deal” thing?
Derp nevermind, I see it.
Side note: I’m actually really excited to see what happens in the next few months with gitlab. I’m sure they’ll be hiring like crazy, but what’s really gonna be nice is to see a few new features come down the pipeline. I hear they’re looking into federation, so that would be nice, but really, gitlab is pretty solid and feature complete to me.
Personally? Maybe lol. Azure, Heroku, local Git, and GitHub do everything I need as of now.
Their ultimate plan is very appealing. I’ve heard the performance of gitlab isn’t up to par, so that will be something to consider.
In what way? I’ve always had a really good experience with gitlab performance.
Good to know about bitbucket. I didn’t have any works left on GitHub aside from business, which is technically not mine.
