Hello Tek Syndicate team,
I love the show and all the great content you guys produce, I've started to binge watch it instead of TV or Netflix (slightly worrisome but I guess it shows how much I enjoy it).
To get to the topic, I just purchased some parts for a low end mini Server that I plan to use for quite a few things, I might not be able to use it for all the things that I plan to, but the more the better.
I want to use is as follows: A web server for a low traffic website I plan on making, FTP server, home NAS/Backup server, HTPC every once in a while, Wireless router for the room its in, and any other stuff you guys think would be useful.
The parts I have acquired so far (a little mismatched but some of it I just had laying around):
- Core i3 4130
- Biostar HI-FI B85S3+ LGA 1150 (Would have gone with an ASUS or MSI but this one fit the bill a little better in the price range)
- Cooler Master N200
- OCZ Modxtreme 600W 80+ Bronze Semi-modular PSU
- 8GB PNY Optima DDR3 1333 (Should I look at getting some ECC memory? This 8gb is salvaged from the 16gb of my main system LOL)
- 64GB OCZ Vertex 2
- 2TB Seagate HDD (plan on getting a second one to run in RAID 1)
What would be some tools/plugins/component you guys might suggest, I'm still debating between Windows Server and a Linux alternative (I do have quite a bit of experience with the latter)?
In the future I plan on adding an Intel dual gigabit NIC, a Blu-Ray drive and maybe a discrete GPU.
Thanks for the help! I hope you guys go far with this community.
