Michio Kaku and the NSA

First a disclaimer: take this post with a grain of salt, i don´t try to make assumptions, but just seeds of thought.

is this why the NSA was formed? to spy on us so that we in the future wouln´t exploit technology for terrorism? For us to have a better chance, of reaching type 1 civilisation status. does this give new meaning to the " we cannot afford not to spy on you" kind of mindset the government has? playing devils advocate, maybe at the other end the NSA will show to be the good guy, the guys that saved us from ourselves. also, not to sound like a conspiracy idiot, but is this why the government is so afraid of the muslim world?, because they aren´t ready for this new multicultural world, and are very likely to hold us back?

i can´t answer these questions or say if they need to be answered, but perhaps i can shine some new light on the NSA and what they are trying to do. that of course depends on, if the government is that smart.

Good point. Who knows what people are up to in the privacy of their own homes. Theoretically, people could make nuclear bombs and world altering diseases. The question is what are we willing to sacrifice for the chance at catching anyone who is doing it? If paranoia becomes rampant, and people go with the mindset of "you wouldn't need privacy if you aren't doing anything wrong" then we might see a voluntary 1984-esque situation.

I've nevet thought of it that way. It could be all true and the NSA might be good guys but still.. spying on people is unethical. I think that whatever the NSA does or intends to do they will always be seen negatively. for example, if the NSA are good guys and want to prevent us from harming ourselves and they succeed, we will think that it's unnecessary to spy on us since there won't be any terrorrists. If they fail, we will say that the NSA doesn't work and it's unnecessary since they can't stop terrorrists. And if they're just evil and want to harvest data to sell it, well obviously they will be seen negatively.

But with the government you guys have now, I think that they are the ones who are afraid of change and becoming a type 1 civilisation like Logan explained in the 6 strikes vs the 6 strikes plan.

Yeah, the NSA might have good intentions. Never thought of using one of Kaku's Big Think videos to try and emphasize such a point though. But honestly, I don't give a damn. Regardless of their intent behind there actions, the fact remains that they did it unethically. One reason I like the Assassin's Creed series and Star Wars. Both sides of the conflict are actually trying to reach one goal: world (intergalactic) peace. There methodology differs, though. The Sith don't hold themselves to the same standards of obtaining that goal as the Jedi, and likewise with the Templars and Assassins. The problem with the Templar-like attitude is this: Absolute power corrupts absolutely. Seen much more blatantly in Star Wars. The approach that keeps power out of the hands of the people is much harder, but imo, sooo worth it. It means we have to educate society. Very hard, compared to ruling over them, restricting them like little 3 year olds. (forgive me for likening our current situation to those fictional struggles)

In reply to 1920.1080... I agree entirely. The thought of a 1984 situation is repulsive to me.

It's rather sad that seemingly American society is willing to throw away everything all those men and women have died for, only roughly 300 years after it all began. Still hope, but rather sad what's going on right now.

Does not worry me, can just as randomly get wiped out by a solar flare or a drunk driver or accidently listening to Justin Bieber. More interested in the one were he talks about how close we are to having warp drives. Haven't seen that one in years.

Interesting hypothesises but with the track record they and the Gov't has I wouldn't count on it.

I think it's disturbing that we're becoming so far advanced to where we can destroy ourselves.

There is a difference between dying by chance (flare) and dying at the hands of a power hungry dictactor ( super virus) It's no different than what hilter did. The technology existed, Gas chambers were made, and he Exploited them.

If It Exists It WILL, fucking WILL be repurposed and exploited. Look at the recent google glass breach.

I fear for humanity. We are killing ourselves.

Call me a pesimist, warp drives are awesome and all, but we have more serious issues on hand.

*sigh. Muslim people are good people, taught to respect everybody, to never hurt anyone, to Protect themselves from those who would hurt them.If you hear how a Muslim killed someone, that person saved someones life by their action. Muslims aren't bad, in america your perception of them IS. Please, at least pick up the Koran and tech yourself about the religion, In america we are taught that the Muslim religion is a bad thing. Allow me to tell you, The Muslim religion is based upon common sense, And nothing in the Koran says anything about the 72 virgins bullshit or killing people for no good reason. Teach yourself, I guarantee it will make you a better person. Have a beautiful day!

With all do respect. Religion in society, any religion, is a modern proponent for the current state of perpetual war we are dealing with right now globally. If the entire population of the world woke up tomorrow and religion in whatever form it takes did not exist, the world would be a very different place.

i know what a muslim is, it´s just that the alot of people seems like they´re afraid of every man that believes in islam. but the point i was trying to make was that organisations like the Taliban and Al Qaida are taught very different versions of islam, they are taught that every infidel in the end must die, and if the kill themselves for their god they get 72 virgins, these are the people that are dangerous, for the future multicultural society. and because of this they put other muslims in a bad light, which i think is really sad.

religion isn´t a problem for the future as long as it is an individual thing, and you keep your religion to yourself. first when you think that society is wrong in some way because it´s contradicting your beliefs, that´s when it becomes a problem. but i think everyone today, religious or not, is good at accepting new ideas for the future

well if a nuclear war were to break out there would be no tommorow, this has been a possibility ever since the end of world war 2, but we are still here. this of course is because the technology has been in the right hands so far, but this new technology might put it in the wrong hands.

There was a boyscout who made nuclear reactor in his backyard. Curiousity is a bitch on the surface. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hZo5k0V9M0

I think the roots of the issue go back to how someone is raised. That boyscout didn't want to hurt anyone, he just loved science. I see too many parents and their children that are being raised in the wrong mindset. Taught and raised to fight for conflict and power rather turning the other check.

I think you are forgetting Robespierre ;) .. not all people are 'good'.. religion can make them 'good' if only they follow it correctly...
