Could someone settle this debate for me... I've read so much on the internet that contradicts itself and I cant seem to find a definitive (if there is one) answer.
Also.. mousepad material... I hear that certain materials are better suited to either Optical or Laser mice. I'm not a competitive gamer but I certainly would like an edge if I can get one ;). Some of this stuff sounds like advertising fluff to me - such as 8000 DPS mice. Anything over 2000 seems like holding a firehose to me lol.
cheers, thanks.

Do you have a budget?
In my opinion, optical mice are the most agreeable solution for anyone. Laser mice all have some level of hardware acceleration, which is additional movement +/-. It's kinda like a predictive function and there is no way to turn it off. Some people prefer to have acceleration, but they are weird! I don't know how they begin to build muscle memory.
Some people do not notice acceleration, but I am particularly sensitive to it. So I got the AVIOR 7000, which I love. After trying a number of laser and optical mice, I can definitely recommend the 3310 optical sensor. In FPS games, I am incredible accurate with the 3310. Unlike any mouse I have used before it. The 3090 sensor is also recommended.
You don't have to get an optical. I just think it's the safest choice if you're unsure. You can't use them on a transparent surface, that's the only real drawback, in my opinion.
