If you need something cheap (relatively) that handles the full audio range, then the blue yeti is a good choice.
http://www.amazon.com/Blue-Microphones-Yeti-USB-Microphone/dp/B002VA464S/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1393546674&sr=8-1&keywords=blue+yeti
it is rated for 20 Hz, to 20,000 Hz, and with no eq or compression, offers really good bass
While it has multiple pickup patterns, the cardioid pickup patters is a little wider than the cardioid pattern of a mic designed for only cardioid. It has a good gain selection, so if your room has noise, or people walking around, it is best to turn the gain way down, then stay within 1-1.5 inches of the mic.
If your main goal is recording music, then for the price, I have not found a mic that records the audio range much better than the yeti.
If you would like, I can record a few audio samples of how it handles music for you (currently my main mic )
If you are looking for something more of the size of a modmic, or a lapel mic, then if you plan to record more than vocals, then expect to spend well over $300 to get the full audio range.
